The Food-Safety Problem sNowadays, many different kinds of foods are reported to be bad for our health. The food-safety problems are related to our daily life and national people is worrying about it.The food-safety problems is that some lawless food producers go against their conscience and morality to manufacture much inferior food and sell them to the market so as to achieve the most profits. They are not concerned with the consumer’s safety and they take risk of law’s sanction to resolutely produce those illegal foods which make national consumers are in panic and people doubt whether domestic foods is reliable. Though national related organization is severely striking them, events like those are still coming up. Some food-safety problems are as followed.In April 2011, many supermarkets in Shanghai were reported to sell dyeing Steamed breads. The manufacturers added preservatives to prevent the breads become moldy and they changed the production date again and again. There are thirty thousand of problem Steamed breads send to thirty different supermarkets such as Hualian and Diya supermarkets to sell every day. In Wenzhou of Zhejiang province, the related department found an illegal factory which made the dyeing Steamed breads.From March 22 to April 14 2011,this factory sold about 190 thousand of dyeing Steamed breads to about 10 thousand of schools.CCTV reported that on March 15,2011, the farm which raise the pigs in mengzhou of Henan province used brown meat essence to feed pigs and they sold those pork to Shuanghui company,finally sold to customer. In addition to these events,there still have many food-safety problems, such as melamine problem,small lobsters event in Nanjing and so on.The analysis of the food-safety problems are as follows.1. Food manufacturers add preservatives to prevent the breadsbecome moldy and use brown meat essence to feed pigs, thisbehavior reflect economics principle 1:People face trade-offs, themanufacturer want to get the most profits and must decrease the costof productions, so finally they choose to make much more money andregardless of people’s safety and rights.2. In order to pay less cost and get more profits, the manufacturergives up the security guarantee and reputation to people, these twothings are their intangible cost. It reflects economics principle 2: Thecost of something is what you give up to get it.3. When those foods problems came up, people didn’t buy thebreads and Shuanghui’s hams or they bought little. People’sbehavior will affect the breads an d hams’ market. It reflectseconomics principle 4: People respond to incentives.4. Sometimes government’s incentives in one hand is tostrengthen the food-safety management, in other hand, somegovernment policies lead to a rise of cost and also can control somebad foods to market. It reflects economics principle 7: Governmentscan sometimes improve market outcomes.5. Affected by the lawless food producers, some legal foodproducers such as breads and hams’ producers may not sell theirproducts and they have to accumulate their products. It influencestheir sales and decreases their profits, so they will decrease theiremployees and there are too many laid-off people. It reflectseconomics principle 10: Society faces a short-run trade-off betweeninflation and unemployment.6. The appearance of dyeing Steamed breads and bad porkmake consumers decrease their consumption on these two kinds offood. So this phenomenon leads to the quantity of dema nd less thanquantity of supply, and the demand curve will shift to left.7. Because steamed bread has many substitutes, and though thesales decrease the price, consumers take safety into consideration,they will not buy the steamed bread, so the bread tend to have elasticdemand.We solve the food safety issues, which have many methods, and we will analyze the following three methods from different perspectives.First, we should strengthen quality supervision of food sources and market access system. In order to make sure the food safety, we must start from the source. At now, food production and management are very dispersed, which most of the individual production. So, it is very difficult conducting strict supervise to the product quality. We should introduce the intensive management for the mode of the production and supervise the whole production process, which ensure the food safety.Second, we should establish and improve the food safety self-regulation system. The enterprise credibility and self-discipline are very important. The enterprise should have a good ethics. It should strengthen credit education and quality sense. What’s more, it should be responsible to the customers, which is very important to the food safety.Last, we should establish and improve standard of food safety and inspection system. Establishing standard food safety, and related government department should publish it to the society. Doing this, we can strengthen all the people’s supervision sense. At the same time, we should supervise strictlyto the food, step by step for the community, sharing resources and to ensure the quality of foods is suitable with health standards.We have many methods to solve the food safety issues, and there are a few rational options:First, we should increase the cost which is illegal. It means that if someone harms other's benefits he will accept legal punishment and receive administrative punishment. Furthermore, he should compensate the suffered sellers for the economic loss. For the foods, the key is to legislate the law, increase food-safety law’s punishment for the fake production, raise penalty cost and for the serious factory or manufacturer, government can stop their production and never open up their factory. Second, for the production, we must start at the source and the closed-end management can improve the food safety. Third, we should set up a food recall committee. It can recall the fake and inferior products without the permission of the corporation. On one hand, according to consummate the food safety law, we can use the law to protect our interests. One the other hand, Training credit quality is the key to solve the food safety. In the end, we could build up the prevention mechanism and strengthen supervision over the market.From the food-safety problems we researched, we know we must be aware of these problems which are related to our daily life and our health. All in all, now that these problems have been come out, we think we should solve the problems from three perspectives: government, manufacturers, and consumers.From government standpoint, government should establish and improve related laws and disciplines, intensify supervision and must crack down on illegal productions. What’s more, government should universal knowledge of food hygiene to the manufacturer and consumers.From manufacturer standpoint, they should raise their legal awareness, and enhance the credibility of their products. The most important thing for the manufacturer is that they should be responsible to the consumers’ safety and take food-safety into consideration.From consumer standpoint, we must strengthen our self-protection consciousness and learn some scientific ways to identify the shoddy foods. And the most important for consumers is that they should supervise the sellers and if they find some illegal food, they should report the sellers at once.。
