Ok! It’s my turn.I will take you to Chengdu. It’s one of popular cities in China. In Chengdu, there are lots of delicious foods. Chengdu snacks are popular for their unique flavors and cooked with various seasonings. They have a particular style in color, smell, taste and shape.It’s famous for its special spicy and hot taste. Before I introduce the food, I will tell you two essential seasonings. They are chili and pepper (huajiao). Chili has medical properties and helps protect against illness which result from wet or damp conditions. They will be used almost every dish.
Now, it’s time to say something about food. The first is Hotpot, although its tradition originated in Chongqing, yet it is quite popular in Chengdu. Sichuan hotpots are basically a big pot of spicy soup and spices simmering in a hole in the middle of your table. While the hotpot keeps simmering, ingredients have already placed into the pot. Patrons choose from a large selection of meats, vegetables and others. Most popular includes: lamb, mushrooms, beef, potatoes, lettuce, carrots and various others. You can choose spicy pot or non-spicy pot. In most cases, there are two kinds of pots. I like this one, because it has two choices. When the food is cooked, you can fish out, dip them in a small dish and just enjoy it.
Next food is special, especially its name. In China, it’s called FuqiFeipian(Couples lungs). But it is not the people’s lung, it is beef and tripe(肚)(something in the animal’s stomach). There is a story about this food. In Qing Dynasty, there was a married couple in Chengdu famous for making beef slices. The husband, GuoZhaohhua(郭朝华), and wife, Zhang Tianzheng(张田政), were particular experimented with new ingredients. As a result, their beef slices had a distinct taste from the other beef slice vendors, and their business boomed. After decades of efforts, it has become famous snack in China. It is smooth, soft and spicy. It also becomes one of Sichuan Dishes that foreign tourists will taste in Sichuan.
Dandanmian(noodles) is a very famous snack in Chengdu. And it is about hundreds of years old. It is thin and smooth noodles. After cooked the noodles, you can put some vegetables and meat powder.Long ago,a man puts it on his shoulder. He puts a small stove in it, and the other side would be put some water and ingredients. He sold the noodles on the street.It is interesting.
