David G. Lancaster (Senior Research Fellow , Adelaide University, Australia) Talk title: Fibre lasers to bridge the short to mid-infrared spectral region
Associate Professor Lancaster was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Rice University for three years developing compact mid-infrared spectroscopic sensors for trace gas sensing. In 2000, he joined the Australian Defence Science and Technology Organization as a senior research scientist where he worked on mid-infrared lasers and short-infrared fibre lasers for electronic warfare applications. Now he is Senior Research Fellow at Adelaide University to establish and manage a silica fibre fabrication facility, develop short to mid-infrared fibre lasers using silica germanate and ZBLAN glasses, and develop new mid-infrared devices such as planar waveguide lasers. He has published 30 journal papers and over 50 conference publications.

Dr. Sun was awarded a post-doctoral fellowship in the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO), Spain. He is currently a research associate in the Department of Engineering, Cambridge University. His current research interests encompass nano-photonics, ultrafast photonics and nonlinear optics. In particular, he focuses on applications of various nanomaterials (e.g. graphene, nanotubes and nanowires) for photonics and optoelectronics. He has contributed over 120 refereed papers and conference proceedings/presentations, 2 book chapters and 7 patents and patent applications.

Professor Galvanauskas has been working in the field of fiber lasers for twenty years, and has more than 200 publications, including 30 patents and patent applications. He had pioneered ultrashort-pulse fiber CPA and his work had resulted in demonstrating several record-breaking achievements in performance of fiber lasers. Prior to joining University of Michigan he spent eight years in industrial R&D. His current work spans areas from novel fiber designs to advanced fiber laser systems, including beam combining of pulsed
Professor Li set up the first high power laser processing research laboratory and research group at UMIST in 1994. He set up a multiple disciplinary Laser Processing Research Centre (LPRC) in 2000. He is the author and co-author of over 450 publications in peer reviewed journals and proceedings of international conferences in laser processing science and technology and advanced manufacturing. He is the inventor/co-inventor of 45 patents relating to laser processing technology. He was elected as Fellow of Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), Laser Institute of America (LIA), International Academy of Production Engineering (CIRP) and International Association of Nanomanufacturing.
