1.词性功能与either：多种词性
①.限定词——名词前：
This is a long room with a door at either end
②.做代词——常接of：
Olive oil and corn oil are both suitable, so you could
use either（of them）.
③.做副词——两个意思：
You can either come by bus or take a taxi.（either…or：或）Jerry wasn’t there either.（=too/also也，用于否定和疑问句）
2.数量关系与either：辨别both；neither；not only…
Either…or; neither…nor; both…and; not only…but also这四组词都是在“两者之间”进行指代。

不同的关键在于三点：
①.“全是”：both…and…;not only…but also…
The results of the research are both impressive and alarming.
There are problems not only with the students, but also with the teachers themselves.
②.“全否”：neither…nor…
③.“之一”：either…or…
3.主谓一致与either：均按照“就近原则”，即以最接近谓语动词的为准。

4.部分倒装与neither/notonly：最接近否定词的主谓倒装
e matter,but the students have theirs too.
1.否定和or: 前后两个都否定时用or/nor
I have no brothers or sisters. （没有哥哥、也没有姐姐）
I have no brothers and no sisters. （用and的话,要重复否定
词）
I have no brothers and nor do I have sisters.（nor在句首，
用部分倒装式）
2.祈使句和or：
祈使句+ or/otherwise + S will/can…（=否定条件句，“否则”）
祈使句+ and + S will/can…（=肯定条件句，“就会”）Hurry up, or you will be late. 快点，否则你要迟到了。

Study hard and you can keep up with others. 努力些，你就能赶上其他人了。

3.平行结构和or：并列同等成分的词、短语或句子,并使用同一
种形式
either...or
whether...or (not)
‘When will you get
the results?’‘Either tomorrow or the day after.’
You don’t care whether he lives or dies, do you?
The jury must decide whether the prisoner is guilty or not.
4.副词词组和or
or rather 或者说；更准确地说（exactly/technically/strictly speaking）
or else否则（=otherwise）
or so大约（跟在数量词后，意思相当于
about/around/approximately）
This is a problem for the government, or rather for the Prime Minister, to deal with.
It must be something serious, or else they wouldn’t have radioed for help.
It was among the 400 or so pictures Monet painted at Giverny.
5.主谓一致和or：适用于就近原则（同neither…nor\not only…but also等）
Either they or Jimis going to Shanghai next Saturday.
Neither you nor Iam wrong.
Not only the students but also the teacher wishes for a holiday.。
