42-year –old Echat Loewe was born in Hamburg, Germany. He graduated from the Hamburg Academy of Fine Arts. In the early 1990s, Echat traveled to China and became greatly interested in the country. In 1999, he started working as a high school teacher in the city of Hechi, Guangxi. Later he went to a primary school in the remote Banlie Village to work as a volunteer teacher.
