二、我们提出的商贸翻译的原则
通过分析商贸汉英翻译的任务，我于 2002年1月在《中国翻译》刊物的第一期上 发表了题为“商贸翻译原则探索”的文章， 率先提出了商贸汉英翻译宜遵守如下原则： 忠实(faithfulness)、准确(exactness)、统一 (consistency)，并详细阐述了这一原则的实质， 强调商贸英语的语言特点决定了翻译原则 的变异。商贸翻译“忠实、准确、统一” 的原则从根本上说是适应了商贸语言与信 息内容的特殊性。
费米尔的“目的论”（skoposthoery）是其主 导理论。费米尔明确指出，所有的翻译都是指向 其预定的对象的，翻译本身就是“为目的语和目 的语环境中的话语对象创造出话语背景中的文本” (Nord，2001:12)。作为有目的的交际行为，整个 翻译过程是由它要达到的目的来决定的，即“目 的决定手段”（Nord，2001:124）。原文文本在翻 译中只起“提供信息”的作用，译者在翻译中完 全可以根据译文预期的交际功能，为适应新的交 际环境，结合译文读者的社会文化背景知识，对 译文的期待以及交际需要等，采取适合翻译目的 的具体翻译策略和手法，在不必拘泥于原文功能 的情况下更有效地实现译文的交际功能。请分析 下列翻译实例：

商贸汉英翻译的语言转换规律比文学翻 译或政论翻译更复杂，更具体，更严谨。 这是因为，商贸领域的汉英翻译不但涉及 特定的英语文体和商贸专业术语，而且还离 不开国际运输、国际金融、国际保险、国际 贸易等业务知识。把商贸汉语文字译成符合 英语习惯而又能让以英语为母语者的商贸专 业人员接受的商务英语，这是商务翻译的工 作标准。

译文有两处没有做到“忠实”于原文， 误传了原文的信息:
第一、原文“客商从开发区企业分得的利润”译为 “profits gained by the investors and businessmen from the Development Zone”，(客商在开发区企业的赢利)， 意思已被改变。“分得的利润” 应译为dividend, 而 profits gained by the investors and businessmen from the Development Zone enterprises ，这个概念很大，必然 给外商造成错觉，以为他们所获的利润都可免税了。 原文中“分得的利润”是指从企业利润中拿出的一 部分按外商投资或经营股份分配的红利(dividend)， 这个概念要比profits gained 小得多。

（1）商贸汉英翻译“忠实”的 原则
商贸翻译中的“忠实”是指正确地 将原文语言的信息用译文语言表达出来。 这个“忠实”不苛求语法与句子结构的 一致，却要求信息内涵上的相等。文学 翻译中的“相似”或“相近”说法都不 能套入商贸翻译中的“忠实”。商贸活 动中的信息传递靠的是相等，即信息等 值，而不单纯是“语义等值” 。
对照“忠实”原则，我们不难发现几点欠缺：
第一，原文的“分支机构”这个信息译成“affiliated organizations”，信息内容有所改变。原文的“分支机构”是可以 办理相关的经营业务的，而译文“affiliated organization” 给读者 提供的不完全是这样的信息。affiliated organization 可指“下属的 协会，刊物”等，经营功能则被弱化。用branch比较合适。 第二、“国家外汇管理局”的通用译名是()： the State Administration of Foreign Exchange, 其中无General 一词。 “国际信托投资公司”的通用译名是：China International Trust and Investment Corporation (CITIC)，其中的China并没有 ‘s。译 文的欠缺阻碍了原文信息忠实地传递到译文语言，造成信息不 等值。译名不能随意，否则信息就歪曲传递。
商贸汉英翻译“忠实”的原则
2. 原文：客商从开发区企业分得的利润汇出 境外时，免征所得税。 原译文：Profits gained by the investors and businessmen from the Development Zone enterprises will be exempted from tax when remitted out of China. (宁波市经济开发区宣传 册P15)。
