Lesson 1Jack’s familyText:Jack is married to Alice. She is his wife and he is her husband. They have a daughter and a son. The son’s name is Henry and the daughter’s name is Lisa. They live next to Alice’s parents Harry and Margaret. Harry is Alice’s father and Margaret is her mother. Harry is Jack’s father-in-law and Margaret is his mother-in-law. Henry is Harry’s grandson and Lisa is Margaret’s granddaughter. Alice has a sister and a brother. Her sister’s name is Mary and her brother’s name is Frank. F rank has two children David and Sherry. Sherry is Alice’s niece and David is Alice’s nephew. His teac her will tell him to be good.Man: I hope so.Lesson 3Computer gamesText:There are many kinds of computer games. Some of the games show violence. While others show women with almost no clothes on, some games let you point the gun at the people and shoot them. Many parents are worried that these kinds of games are bad for kids to play. There should be less violence in computer games. Some boys like to fight and they were used the computer to pretend to fight. Playing computer games helps kids to get involved with computers. Violence and sex are put in the games for boys. But what about girls, girls also need to be comfortable with computers. So they can use them when they grow up. The problem now is getting girls interested in computers while they are still young.Dialogue:Computer gamesMan: I hate the computer games.Woman: Why? They are fine.Man: Because they are too violent. Coffee has been a popular drink for centuries. Nowadays coffee shops don’t just sell coffee. They also sell tea, food and delicious dessert. The best coffee shops have comfortable chairs and tables for people to sit down and relax. Many students spend their time hiding out with friends in coffee shops. Most of the shops require you to order something if you sit down at a table. Once you get something to drink or eat you can sit for hours and enjoy the surroundings of the coffee shops.Places for relaxationDialogue:Woman: Do you have coffee shops in China, too?Man: Yes, of course. Woman: Do you often go there alone?Man: I often go there with my friends.Lesson 6Red light runnersText:The San Francisco department of traffic is installing cameras at street intersections. The cameras take pictures of cars running red lights. Each camera captures eighty to one hundred cars running red lights a day. Running red lights is a big problem in San Francisco. A policeman says he could write tickets all day just for that. Running red lights causes about one thousand accidents a year. The cameras show drivers not pay attention. They read maps. They talk on cell phone. They look at buildings. The camera sometimes captures the movement when the accident happens. The drivers look surprise. Sometimes they look angry. The camera seems to pay off. There are 40% fewer red light runners at the intersections with cameras. They city has ordered twenty more cameras. Dialogue:Running red lightsWoman: A report says running red lights causes one thousand traffic accidents every year.Man: It’s horrible. Why do drivers run red lights then?Woman: Maybe they know they shouldn’t run a red light, but when they are driving they don’t pay enough attention to traffic lights.Man: Talking on the cell phone while driving is very dangerous too. It increases the chance of accidents.Woman: I know. If policeman catches you using the cell phone while driving, you will be fined. Lesson 7Henry ParterText:The Henry Parter books are fine and exiting to read. Henry Parter, the main character is a wizard. He goes to a special school to learn how to be a better one. While he is at school, he has one adventure after another. Some of them are dangerous, while the others are fun. The author of the books, G.K. Rowling wrote the books many years ago. She wrote a great part of her first book at a small coffee shop near her house. She had to work in the shop because she didn’t have the money to hit her house. Now she is a success. She doesn’t have to worry about money.Dialogue:Henry Parter books and moviesWoman: Do you like the Henry Parter books and movies?Man: Not really!Woman: Why not? They are very fun and exiting.Man: Maybe, but I think they are just for kids.Woman: No, that’s not true. Many adults like the Henry Parter books too.Man: Maybe they don’t agree with my taste.Lesson 8Bill ClintonText:Bill Clinton took office on January, 20th, 1993 and became the 42nd US president. He was the first US president born after World War II. He is also one of the youngest of all US presidents. Clinton was born into a poor family in 1946. Three month before he was born, his father, William Blake died. When he was small, his mother remarried. Her new husband’s name was Norge Clinton. So the boy’s family name was changed. In the summer of 1963, C linton was invited to visit Washington D.C. During his visit, he made President Candidate in the White House. At that time he knew he wanted to be an American president. Most babies have problems because their mothers took drugs or drank alcohol while pregnant. Any food a mother eats, any beverage she drinks and any drug she takes pass through the mother’s body and into the body of her unborn baby. There is nothing that stops the baby from getting whatever the mother has got in her body. There is no safe among alcohol or drugs the pregnant women can take. The best advice is not to use any alcohol or drugs while pregnant. There is no safe time to take any drugs or alcohol during pregnancy. If women discover she is pregnant, she should stop smoking or taking drugs and alcohol immediately. The sooner the women stop taking these, the better changes the baby has to be born healthy. It is best for you to eat healthy food, get twenty of sleep, and see a doctor regularly when you are pregnant.Dialogue:Quitting unhealthy habitsMan: Rachel has designed to quit smoking.Woman: Really? It is caused by a virus called HIV. Sharing needles or having sex with an AIDS patient spreads it. More and more people are at risk. A person with AIDS can get sick in different ways. Half of the people who have gotten AIDS have died. There is no cure, but you can protect yourself from getting the disease. You can avoid getting AIDS by knowing your sex partner well. Talk to your sex partner about it and ask aim all her personal questions. Do not have sex with a person who has the virus or shares needles with other people. Another way to avoid AIDS is never to share needles. If you must share, always clean the needle to kill the AIDS virus. When working with others, try to come up with ideas that can help solve problems. Don’t insist that your idea be always used. Try to understand and contribute to your team. Find a way to work under different conditions. Learn to adapt and except new work message. Because he is funny and helpful and he can contribute a lot to the team he belongs to.Woman: Maybe we all should learn something from him.Man: Right.Lesson 13Walking at nightText:There are times when walking at night can be very dangerous. Remember the advice list below and you can make walking safer. Avoid walking or running alone at night. Go walking or jogging with friends instead. Do not use headphone while walking, driving or jogging. Always walk in well-lighted area and avoid taking shortcuts. After dark, keep away from thick bushes or doorways because someone could be lurking there. If someone in the vehicle stops and asks for directions. Answer from a distance. Do not go near the vehicle. If you are followed by a stranger go immediately to an area with lights and people. If necessary, turn around and walk in the opposite direction. Do not show your cash openly and especially when leaving at ATM machine. Dialogue:RobberyWoman: Two people were robbed night near the park.Man: Again? The area around the park is too dark at night. There should be more lights there. Woman: I am afraid of the dark. I don’t feel safe in the dark. I feel someone is hiding in the dark to attack me.Man: Your feelings might be right. You should never walk alone there at night. It is too dangerous. Woman: I Know. And you should be more careful, too.Lesson 14Looking for a jobText:Are you looking for a job? More and more people are looking for work. Also many people have to change jobs as the job market keeps changing. Where can you find new jobs? Besides the local newspapers there are many places to check for more information on possible jobs. Public libraries have information about jobs and different careers. There is information available for you to apply for a job. Many businesses high workers to employment agencies. Employment agencies help you find both temporary and permanent jobs. Many employment agencies place the want ads in the newspapers. You can also find the names of the employment agencies in the telephone directory. Employment agencies usually charge a fee. Your friends and relatives who are working another source provide information for jobs. My wife and I will be busy next few days. She'll be preparing Thanksgiving dinner and I'll be cleaning the house from top to bottom. We'll looking forward to the holiday .But we kown we'll be happy when it's over.
