South Korea’s first female President, Park Geun-Hye, took office on Monday. As the newly elected leader of Asia’s fourthlargest economy, Ms. Park is facing tough challenges ahead, including a slowing economy and soaring welfare costs. At her inauguration, she promised to safeguard South Korea’s economy. Taking the oath in front of more than 70,000 people gathering in front of the National Assembly in Seoul, Park geun-hye, South Korea’s first female president, has pledged to bring the country back on the economic growth track.

Park has given her commitment to job creation and welfare expansion. She said, "One of my critical economic goals is to ensure that anyone that works hard can stand on their own two feet. And through the support of policies designed to strengthen small and medium-sized enterprises, such businesses can prosper alongside large companies."
