过去进行时一、定义：过去进行时主要表示过去某个时刻或某一阶段正在进行的动作；过去进行时可以用来描述一件事发生的背景：一个长动作发生的过程中（用过去进行时态），伶一个短动作发生（用一般过去时态）。
二、过去进行时的不同句式________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________三、过去进行时的常见标志1、常用时间状语：then, at this/that time yesterday, at that moment, this morning, the wholemorning, all day yesterday, from nine to ten last evening, when, while等。
Eg. What were you doing while I was watching TV then?__________________________________________________2、在一些情况下没有使用时间标志词，这时要通过上下文来判断使用过去进行时态。
Eg. They were expecting you the day before yesterday, but you didn’t show up.__________________________________________________四、疑难拓展1、always 等副词与过去进行时连用过去进行时常用always, forever, continually, constantly, frequently等副词来表达说话人的赞美或厌世等情感。
Eg. I was always making the same mistakes then.He was constantly asking questions.__________________________________________________2、过去进行时表过去将来过去进行时（go, come, start, stay, leave, fly等一些表示位置移动的动词的过去进行时态）可表过去将来。
Eg. He didn’t say when she was coming.__________________________________________________3、一般过去时和过去进行时的区别过去进行时表示过去某时正在进行的动作，而一般过去式则表示一个完成的动作。
也就是说，用一般过去时只是表示有过这件事，用过去时则强调动作的连续性或动作当时正在发生。
Eg. He was reading a novel this morning.上午他在看一本小说。
（可能没看完）He read a novel this morning.上午他看了一本小说。
（已经看完）The children were watching TV yesterday evening.昨晚孩子们整晚都在看电视。
（没干别的）The children watched TV yesterday evening.昨晚孩子们看了电视。
（有过这件事，也可能孩子们还干过别的事）4、when和while的区别在过去时态的时间状语从句中，如果两个动作同时发生，延续性的动作用过去进行时，非延续性的动作用一般过去时。
(1)在when 引导的从句中，主从句的谓语动词既可以是非延续性动词也可以是延续性动词，要根据情况选用一般过去时或过去进行时。
Eg. When I entered the room, he was writing a letter.(2)While 引导的从句中谓语动词必须是延续性的。
所在主从句动作大致持续相等时主从句一般都用进行时，但若是两个动作一长一短时，短的用一般时，长的用进行时。
Eg. I was cooking the dinner while he was playing the piano.I saw him while I was walking to the station.5、如何区分过去进行时和现在进行时过去进行时表示过去某时正在进行的动作，而现在进行时则表示此刻正在发生的动作。
Eg. The man is mending his bike now.这个人现在正在修理他的自行车。
（现在就可以看到）The man was mending his bike at this time yesterday.这个人在昨天这个时候正在修理他的自行车。
（现在看不到）注意：在宾语从句中或者间接引语的句子中，主句为过去时态，从句一般情况下用过去进行时。
Eg. He said he was doing his homework.6、一般情况下，不用进行时态的动词(1)表心理状态、情感的动词，如love, hate, wish, like, care, respect, please, prefer, know，refuse, want, wish, fear, forgive等(2)表存在、状态的动词，如appear ,exist ,lie ,remain ,stand ,see, obtain等(3)表感觉的动词，如see ,hear ,feel ,smell ,sound ,taste, notice等.(4)表一时性的动词，如accept ,allow ,admit ,decide ,end ,permit ,promise等。
