面塑，俗称面花、礼馍、花糕、捏面人。汉族民俗艺术之一，民间面塑以 造型艺术的身份出现是近几年的事，过去它只是一种被装饰过的食品，故从历 史上讲既无作品记载也无珍品传世，实在是一大憾事。面塑在汉族民间叫面花， 是作为仪礼、岁时等民俗节日中馈赠、祭祀、喜庆、装饰的信物或标志，是一 种由风俗习惯积淀成的极有代表性的汉族传统文化。

面塑选择
晋北人家供神所用枣山是颇为讲究的，这是因为它是作为一种祭物而出 现的。人们认为它有着某种超于自我的神秘力量，是人与神的交流桥梁。制作 时把发好的面擀成大三角形，上面铺一层红枣，再将面做成盘云、盘龙、盘兔、 如意纹样，间或点缀以连理、元宝、下山虎、上山鹿、瓜果之类，以五谷杂粮 点睛镶鼻，蒸出锅来，绵颖憨实，洁白的面与深红的枣、五彩的粮、豆形成色 彩上整体的对比效果。大年初一迎神之时供于神位之前是说米面成山，表达一 种丰衣足食的美好愿望。一些地方还要在旺火上燃点柏柴，烤食花馍，谓之避 邪馍馍，保一年无灾无病，平安吉利。晋南面花中还有“五子登科”、“巧公 巧母”、“万事如意”等造型。
无论是枣山、饭山还是花糕，可说是在这一隆重的节日中，乡间的百姓们 自己创作的一种心灵崇拜物，一种寄托心愿的方式。至于钱龙，则是一种类似 于蟾的三足想象动物，表达民众一种向往富裕的思想。有些地方在腊月廿三祭 灶时还要灶马灶鸡等作为供奉。这些供物既是供品又是崇拜物，实质上仍是食 品，未了总要分而食之的。正是这些复合性功能使它成为一种最易普及、最易 传承的艺术形式。
