战区圣诞卡片A charity has released a series of Christmas cards with a difference. The non-profit organization Doctors of the World is selling four different cards showing traditional Christmas scenes from the Holy Land. However, the pictures also contain images of the war in Syria. The Doctors of the World want to make people aware that there is still a lot of suffering going on in the world, especially in Syria. One Christmas card shows Mary and Joseph travelling on a donkey through the rubble of modern day, war-torn Syria. Another shows the baby Jesus asleep in his manger as a missile is fired in the distance behind him. The next card shows the three wise men looking up at warplanes flying overhead.breaking.jpgThe Doctors of the World website explained the reason for their alternative Christmas cards. It said: "Rather than making a religious statement, these images seek to remind the public that this year war has forced millions from their homes, and they really need our help."

JUDY WOODRUFF: He is spending most of his time since the election out of public view, but, today, President-elect Trump was suddenly much more visible.Items on his agenda: the cost of new presidential aircraft and prospects for new jobs in the telecommunications industry. The day started with a surprise appearance in the lobby of Trump Tower in New York. Mr. Trump lit into the Boeing company over its contract to build two new versions of Air Force One.DONALD TRUMP (R), President-Elect: It's going to be over $4 billion for the Air Force One program. And I think it's ridiculous. I think Boeing is doing a little bit of a number. We want Boeing to make a lot of money, but not that much money.特朗普炮轰波音空军一号太贵了JUDY WOODRUFF: Earlier, on Twitter, he had gone further, saying the government should cancel the order with Boeing. Boeing's initial contract was for roughly $3 billion, but costs havebeen rising. Still, the White House said today it has no idea where the president-elect got his $4 billion figure.Boeing said in a statement that it hopes to deliver the best planes for the president at the best value for the American taxpayer.Later, another sudden appearance, this time with Japanese billionaire Masayoshi Son, CEO of SoftBank, a Japanese tech and telecom company.DONALD TRUMP: And he's just agreed to invest $50 billion in the United States and 50,000 jobs. And he's one of the great men of industry, so I just want to thank you very much.MASAYOSHI SON, CEO, SoftBank: Thank you. Thank you.DONALD TRUMP: Thank you very much.JUDY WOODRUFF: There was also news that the president-elect has divested himself of his entire stock portfolio. His transition team said he sold it off back in June. The statement gave no details, amounts or documentation for the stock sales, all of this as meetings with potential staff and Cabinet nominees continued, including the CEO of ExxonMobil, Rex Tillerson, said to be a candidate for secretary of state, talk radio host Laura Ingraham, a possibility for White House press secretary, and Iowa Governor Terry Branstad, who could be up for a diplomatic post.Mr. Trump will visit Iowa later this week as part of a thank you tour that began last week in Ohio. The tour also carried him to Fayetteville, North Carolina, for a rally this evening. This is Scientific American — 60-Second Science. I'm Steve Mirsky.Got a minute?"This year's Nobel Prize in Chemistry is about the world's smallest machines."Göran Hansson, secretary general of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, earlier this morning."The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2016 Nobel Prize in Chemistry jointly to Jean-Pierre Sauvage, Sir James Fraser Stoddart and Bernard L. Feringa for the design and synthesis of molecular machines."Sauvage was born in Paris and is now an emeritus professor at the University of Strasbourg. Stoddart comes from Edinborough and is now at Northwestern University in Illinois. Feringa is from the Netherlands and is at the University of Groningen.2016年诺贝尔化学奖得奖者.jpgFollowing the announcement, Feringa called in and explained some of the potential applications for the microscopic machines."First of all let me say I feel a little bit like the Wright Brothers, who were flying a hundred years ago for the first time. And then people were saying, 'You know, why do we need a flyingmachine?' And now we have a Boeing 747 and an Airbus. So that is a bit how I feel...but once you are able to control movement, you have a motor, you can think of all kinds of functions.""So indeed, we think of transporters, like in your body there are many motors and machines that make it possible that your cells divide, that your muscles work, that there is transport in the cells, etc. But you can think also much broader. Think about nanomachines, microrobots, think about tiny robots that the doctor in the future will inject in your bloodstreams and that go to search for a cancer cell or are going to deliver a drug for instance. But also smart materials, for instance, materials that can adapt, change, depending on an external signal, just like our body functions. That is the kind of functions you can think of."Thanks for the minute for Scientific American — 60-Second Science Science. I'm Steve Mirsky.这里是科学美国人——60秒科学。
