《初中英语拓展阅读3》Breakaway 3听力部分录音稿Unit 1 ListeningI haven’t been to Iceland but I have visited an active volcano in Italy. It’s called Mount Etna and it is very famous. We walked to the very top of the volcano. It took around four hours. We could see the lava inside the volcano. It was amazing!Unit 2 ListeningMy name is Jan. The place I would love to visit is the island of Socotra. The plants and trees on Socotra are very unusual. I love plants and trees so it would be very interesting for me to visit the island. I would like to walk all around the island and look at the amazing plant life. I wouldn’t want to stay in a hotel. I’d like to stay with people who live on the island. That would be much more fun!Unit 3 ListeningLast summer I visited Lake Baikal in Siberia. I took a boat out to Olkhon Island. I camped on the island for two days. I walked all around the island and I swam in the lake. The water was cold! There were quite a lot of people visiting the island. I was surprised because I thought that it was a quiet, isolated place.Unit 4 ListeningSally and I had a great time at Etosha National Park. We travelled there in a small group of six people. We had a guide called Joe. He was fantastic. He knew exactly where to take us to see the amazing wildlife. We saw lions, zebra, elephants and rhinos. We stayed in the park for three nights. I loved it! Unit 5 ListeningWhen I was a young child, I saw a picture of the moai of Rapa Nui. The picture was in a school book.I thought the moai were amazing. I had never seen anything like them before. I decided that one day I would go to Rapa Nui and see those enormous statues for myself. Well, tomorrow I will arrive on Rapa Nui and I can’t wait. I am so excited!Unit 6 ListeningYesterday I went shopping for a new cell phone. I went into three different stores. I looked at lots and lots of phones. All of the phones were great. I liked all of them. That was the problem. I couldn’t choose a phone! I decided to keep my old cell phone! It’s much easier than choosing a new one.Unit 7 ListeningToday is Tree Planting Day and we are going to plant trees in our local park. This is the first time I have planted trees on Tree Planting Day –I’m quite excited! I am going to the park with my class. We are going to plant one tree each. There are thirty children in my class so that means we will be planting thirty trees. That’s quite a lot of trees!Unit 8 ListeningIn 2005 the government of Kazakhstan built a dam to help save the North Aral Sea. This was not the first dam that was built. It was the third dam. The first and second dams were not built by the government; they were built by the people. People who lived near the North Aral Sea did not want the sea to disappear. They worked together to build a dam. The first dam did not last very long. It quickly washed away. The second dam lasted for over two years. Then the government built the third dam.We always use pumpkins to decorate our house on Halloween. We put a big pumpkin face with a light in it in the kitchen window. And we put a small pumpkin face with a light in it upstairs in each bedroom window. Sometimes we put one outside, next to the front door, too. We use about five pumpkins every Halloween.Unit 10 ListeningLast year I went to the Great Barrier Reef with my family. We sailed around the reef for two days. We went diving and snorkeling. We saw incredible fish and coral. They were so colorful. Then we stopped at one of the islands. We stayed there for another three days. What a fantastic trip!Unit 11 ListeningI love Antoni Gaudi’s buildings. I’ve seen lots of photos of them and I saw a television program about Gaudi – it was very interesting. I love the shapes and the colors that he used in his designs. I hope I can go to Barcelona to see his buildings one day.Unit 12 ListeningI’ve read a few books by Agatha Christie. I like them. They are easy to read but you do have to think about them too. My favorite book is Death on the Nile. It’s set in Egypt, which is such a beautiful and inter esting country. It’s an exciting story as well. I’m not surprised that her books are still popular today.Unit 13 ListeningI want to be an architect one day. I love drawing and designing buildings. I spend a lot of time drawing plans for houses. One day I want to design my own house. Next year I hope to go to university and study architecture, and then I can become an architect. I can’t wait!Unit 14 ListeningI like the gardens they designed in France in the 1700s. Everything was in a pattern. The trees were planted in long lines. Everything was symmetrical. I don’t like the natural gardens that “Capability”Brown designed. They are supposed to look natural –but I don’t think that they do. I don’t understand why his gardens were so popular.Unit 15 ListeningMy favorite painting by Vincent van Gogh is Sunflowers. I love the bright colors he used in the painting. And I love sunflowers too! I have a T-shirt with Sunflowers on it. One day I’d like to see the real painting. I’d also love to see van Gogh’s other paintings too.Unit 16 ListeningThe moon is the brightest object in the night sky. The second brightest object is Venus. Venus is brighter than any star in the sky – except for the sun, of course! But when they see Venus, many people think they are looking at a bright star. Sometimes you can see it brightly around sunrise. Then people call it the “morning star”. At another time of year it can be seen brightly as the sun goes down, and then it is called the “evening star” .Unit 17 ListeningI remember when the first men walked on the moon. It was in the afternoon, and we stayed at school late to see it. Our teacher asked us to sit and watch the school’s television. It was on old black and white television, of course. It was difficult to hear and see. But it was very exciting. I can remember hearing Neil Armstrong’s words, although at the time I didn’t really understand them!In 2012 I was looking up into the night sky and saw something bright that was moving. At first I thought it was a shooting star –that’s a meteorite burning up as it enters the atmosphere. But this wasn’t going as fast as a normal shooting star. It was an orange color. Then it broke up into smaller, bright pieces. They travelled all the way across the sky. I thought this was something different. The next day I heard on the radio that it was a piece of space junk – an old satellite re-entering the atmosphere and burning up. Lots of people had seen it and called the police about it.Unit 19 ListeningIn March 1965, Alexey Leonov of Russia became the first person to walk in space. His spacecraft was the Voskhod 2. Leonov went outside of the spacecraft for about 12 minutes, connected to the craft by a cord about 5 and a half meters long. He had a problem when he tried to get back into the spacecraft, because out in space his spacesuit had got bigger, like a balloon. He had to let some air out of the spacesuit so that he could get back inside.Unit 20 ListeningI read about what those two Canadian students did on the Internet. I thought it was a fantastic idea. They did it all themselves, working for months, making everything and testing it. Then I wondered if it was dangerous. What if a plane flew into the balloon? But I guess there are lots of weather balloons going up every day. I read that they had to check it with the police to see that they wouldn’t get into trouble. Anyway, I think it was a great thing to do. I don’t think I could do something like that!。
