The city logo for Wuhan
Wuhan, called “Han”for short, is the home to the Yangtze River and the Hanshui River. Both “Hankou” and “Hanyang” were named after the Hanshui River. Wuhan is closely related to “Han”.
The “Han”of the Hanshui River is the most beautiful and magnificent Chinese character. The Milky Way is also called “Tianhan”, “Hehan”, and “Xinghan”, because it looks like the Hanshui River. The Han Dynasty, the Han nationality, Hanzi(Chinese characters)…“Han”embraces a beautiful river, a magnificent astronomical phenomenon, and a great nationality. It is one of the highly recognized Chinese cultural symbols in the world.
The original complex form of the Chinese character “Han”is the basis of the design and creativity of the city logo for Wuhan, with the features of seal characters absorbed. The three points left represents three water drops and they intersect with each other, which looks like the Chinese character “Ren (people)”and represents the Yangtze River and the Hanshui River. It means that water benefits everything without evoking conflicts or resistance, and that Wuhan occupies the natural advantage of rich water resources. The whole of the right part of the Chinese character consists of multiple symbols for Chu Culture and Wuhan. Its upper part is in sharp of “Jade Twin Dancers” unearthed at the Chu State;
its middle part is the Chinese character “Zhong(center)”, meaning that Wuhan is located in central China, and the main force boosting the rising of central China; the below part is the pedestal of a music instrument, with an implied meaning that the rapid development of Wuhan will be based on it.
The logo looks like a Chinese seal and in graduated red, showing the profound Chu and Han Culture. The English words “WUHAN CHINA”, in the form of traditional Chinese calligraphy make the city’s name internationalized.。
