Casting includes slip casting , tape casting ,gel casting and ….. The feed material for these processes is a suspension, i.e. a colloidal solution, containing a solvent, a deagglomerated stabilised powder , some additives.

Homogeneity in packing of the particles (coordination number), pore size distribution and density.
Higher densities are helpful in sintering process but the benefits of higher densities are only fully realised in homogeneous compacts. Another goal of Shape-forming is to form a certain shape with sufficient strength and also sufficient contact points between the powder particles, necessary for the sintering process.

plastic forming is based on the changes in the viscosity during the formation process. The compacts are shaped from a mixture that is deformable under an applied pressure, containing a ceramic powder and various additives. (with plastic behaviour)
