近义词

1、Distinct,distinctive

The photo you took in Hong Kong Cultural Centre is not distinct enough.

She has a distinct pronunciation.

There is a distinct smell of smoke in my room.

This picture is distinct from that.

The twins have distinct personalities.

◆Distinctive的意思是“表示差别的”、“有特色的”、“特殊的”(marking or showing a difference)。

例如:Can you find the distinctive watermarks of this stamp? Pupils in Hong Kong usually have distinctive badges on their school uniforms.

One of the distinctive features of this book is its distinct illustrations.

2、revenge & avengerevenge n.

Revenge大都指为自己报仇,有时它还带有报复的意味(to do harm or injury in return for any harm, injury or insult)。

例:The oppressed resolved to revenge themselves upon (on) the oppressors.

He swore to revenge a wrong done to him.

Avenge大都指替别人复仇;复仇的动机并不是为了自己,而是为了正义感(to punish for a wrong done and often for the sake of justice)。

例:Hamlet planned to avenge his father upon the murderer.

In order to avenge the murder of his father,Hamlet pretended to be insane.

A revenge oneself upon (on)B A 对 B进行报仇A revenge oneself forB A要为 B 报仇avenge oneself A upon ( on)B for sth A 因某事对B进行报复avenge something upon ( or on) one's enemyavenge sb 为某人报仇请看下面的句子和译文:He wanted revenge for his father's murder.

I will avenge my friend.

I will avenge my enemy的句子是错误的。

I swear I will avenge myself on him.

3、possible, probable, likely

We are probable to make mistakes when we learn English.正译:1. It is probable /Likely that we will make mistakes when we learn English.2. Probably / Likely, we'll make mistakes when we study English.3. We are likely to make mistakes when learning English.

probable只能用在It is probable that的句型中,而不能说We are probable to do sth。

但likely既可用在It is likely that...,也可用在We are likely to do sth的句型中。

It is probable that he forgot.2.

Probably, he didn't catch my mean-ing.3.

It is likely that she got soaked through in the rain.

It is possible(for sb)to do sth的句型。

It's probable, not only possibleWhat do you think is likely to happen? It’s quite likely that a decision will be made before the end of the year.

It’s possible but not likely/probable that he’ll come here next month.

It’s probable, not only possible.

She is likely to go abroad .1.likely常用于以下两种结构中:1) sb/sth. is likely to do sth.He is likely to come.

It isn’t likely to rain.

2) It is likely + that clause :It is likely that he will succeed.

It is possible (for sb.) to do sth.It is possible for the train to be late.It is possible that…It is possible that the train is late.

3. probable

It’s probable that clause…It is probable that it will rain today. Bring your umbrella with you.

It is possible for him to lend us the car.It is possible /probable that he will lend us the car. He is possible / probable to lend us the car. It is __ that it will rain today.
