Lead in Packaging is the science, art and technology of enclosing or protecting products for distribution ,storage ,sale and use .Packaging also refers to the process of design ,evaluation and production of packages.Package labeling is any written electronic or graphic communications on the packaging or on a separate but associated label. Packaging can be described as a coordinated system of preparing goods for transportation ,warehousing ,logistics,sale and end use.This includes packaging,containers, protection, preservation, transportation, information and sales. It is fully integrated into government , business,institutional, industry and personal use.
8.1.3Loading and Transport Function Convenient goods handling entails designing transport packaging in such a manner that it may be held ,lifted ,moved, set down and stowed easily ,efficiently anf safely. Packaging thus has a crucial impact on the efficiency of transport ,handling and storage of goods.Packaging should therefore be designed to be easily handled and to permit space-saving storage and stowage.

8.1.4 Sales Function The purpose of the sales function of a package is to enable or promote the sales process and to make it more efficient. 8.1.5 Promotional Function Promotional material placed on the packaging is intended to attract the potential purchaser’s attention and to have a positive impact upon the purchasing decision .Promotional material on packaging plays a partcularly important role sales packaging as it is directly addressed to the consumer .This function is of subordinate significance in transopt packaging.

8.1.2Storage Function
The packaging materials and packaging containers must be stored in many different locations both before packaging of the goods and once the package contents have been used. Packaging must thus also fulfill a storage function.

8. 1 Functions of Packaging The various functions of Packaging are divided into primary, secondary and tertiary functions. In contrast with the peimary functions, which primarily concern the technical nature of the packaging, secondary functions relate to communications and and teriary functions relate to the extent. 8.1.1Protective Function The packaging products protect the contents packed into them from outside elements.In addition, packaging must also reliably be able to withstand the many dofferent static and dynamic forces to which it is subjected during transport ,handling and storage operations.
