But whether that causes any harm is not clear, scientists at the National Institute of Health said at a conference last month, adding that the study will not likely settle concerns of a link between cell phones and brain cancer. “What we showed is glucose(葡萄糖)metabolism(代谢)(a sign of brain activity) increases in the brain in people who were exposed to a cell phone in the area closest to the antenna,” said Dr. Nora Volkow of the NIH, whose study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The study was meant to examine how the brain reacts to electromagnetic fields caused by wireless phone signals.Volkow said she was surprised that the weak electromagnetic radiation(电磁辐射) from cell phones could affect brain activity, but she said the findings do not shed any light on whether cell phones cause cancer. “This study does not in any way indicate that. What the study does is to show the human brain is sensitive to electromagnetic radiation from cell phone exposures.” Use of the devices has increased dramatically since they were introduced in the early 1980s, with about 5 billion cell phones now in use worldwide. Some studies have linked cell phone exposure to an increased risk of brain cancers, but a large study by the World Health Organization did not offer a clear answer to this. Volkow’s team studied 47 people who had their brain examined while a cell phone was turned on for 50 minutes and another while the phone was turned off. While there was no complete change in brain metabolism, they found a 7 percent increase in brain metabolism in the region closest to the cell phone antenna when the phone was on.Experts said the results were interesting, but urged that they be understood with great care. “Although the biological significance, if any, of increased glucose metabolism from too much cell phone exposure is unknown, the results require further investigation,” Henry Lai of the University of Washington in the U.S. and Dr. Lennart Hardell of University Hospital in Sweden, wrote in an article in JAMA. “Much has to be done to further investig ate and understand these effects,” they wrote.(2.0 分)1.According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE?A.Cell phone use is dangerous.B.Cell phone use causes cancer.C.The human brain is an electromagnetic field.D.There are about 5 billion cell phone users in the world right now.得分:2(2.0 分)2.Doctor Volkow was astonished because ___.A.her research has shed light on her understanding of cell phoneB.she found that cell phone exposure is harmful to human brainC.she found that using a cell phone for about minutes could influence or change brain activityD.human brain is not responsive to electromagnetic radiation得分:2(2.0 分)3.According to the passage, cell phones were launched ___.A.in the late 1970sB.between 1980 and 1985C.in the late 1980sD.in the early 1990s得分:2(2.0 分)4.What does the word “that” stand for in the second paragraph?A.Brain activity.B.Her research finding.C.The fact that cell phone use may cause cancer.D.Her research progress.得分:2(2.0 分)5.Which of the following is an appropriate title for this passage?A.Cell Phone Radiation: Is It Harmful?B.Cell Phone Radiation: Is It Useful?C.Cell Phone Radiation: Is It Healthy?D.Cell Phone Radiation: Is It Weak?得分:2The first time I decided to leave home was when I was a sophomore in high school. I was having trouble getting along with my parents.I had about a hundred dollars in my pocket. And so I thought about leaving home.It took me only three weeks away from home when I started to feel homesick.Living on my own is a totally different experience for three main reasons: being more responsible, more decisive and more creativeFirst of all, I have learned that living on my own requires that I become more responsible. My parents usually assign my work and duties which I have to keep up with almost every day.when I fail to do my assigned work,I only get scolded. However, now that I am on my own,I get to deal with my duties without being told to. When I fail to do my duties, I must also deal with the outcome on my own.Another different experience for me while living on my own is that now I have become more decisive.I have to be more careful now that I am on my own because my parents are not here to give me their advice.I must make my own decisions now that I am on my own.For example, I must make the best decisions for myself without hurting anybody’s feelings and without my parents’ authority. Therefore,I became more creative just by living on my own.I could make my future plan.I have made rules for myself to follow. I also designed all the furniture in my room by using carving tools. I wrote a lot of songs and kept them in my notebook for any singer out there who might be interested. This to me is a good experience, because I usually think that being creative is the nicest thing in the world. However, when I was with my parents I found it hard for me to be creative simply because I always followed their ideas. In conclusion, these are the things that usually happen when I am with my parents and when I am alone. In addition, I think that it is appropriate for everyone in this world to love their parents and themselves before they love anyone else. They should learn how to live on their own, but at the same time learn how to support their loving parents. They need to follow every technique that was given to them by their parents. They can make use of their freedom of choice to lead to wherever they want.(2.0 分)6.According to the passage, the author decided to leave home because_____.A.he liked to live on campusB.he had trouble well-balanced life is necessary to live in today’s world. without awell-balanced life a person can neither function properly nor develop into a well-rounded individual. without some sort of balance in life people tend to be unfulfilled unhappy.i’ve experienced great stress in my study and work. andi’ve tried every means to adjust myself and relieve my stress. finallyi found a way out in my leisure time. leisure time is very important and necessary for me. without it iam sure i would go insane. i spend most of my extra time reading, listening tomusic, talking to my real life friends, or talking acting this way, one of my good friends pulled me aside and invited me to go for a walk with her. we talked about what was going on in my life and she helped me to figure out what i wanted to do. i do not know what would have happened if she had not been there. many things add to having a well-balanced life. stress can be a very dangerous and tiresome experience. it can lead to depression and unhappiness. but when it happens, you can do something other than wait, like talking to your friends or listening to music.then you may mot think you should have been so stressed and depressed.a
