Information AgeInformation is so important in modern society that our age is called “Information Age”. Since the world is developing at an ever-increasing speed, it is necessary for each of us to be informed of the latest development. There are many means of getting information to keep up with the Information Age. Those commonly used are reading newspapers, listening to the radio, and watching television. With the development of science and technology, new and advanced tools such as mobile telephones and computers are becoming popular. Computer networks enable us to obtain information in a more convenient and efficient way.In order to succeed in this competitive world, we should be aware of the vital role of information. If we can’t keep up with the new advances in science and technology, we will be left behind.3.Two Points to Bear in Mind When Seeking a JobWhen you are seeking a job, you should bear in mind two points. One is that “a good resume opens job doors”; and the other is “our first impression is created in the job interview”.In order to give yourself an edge over others for the job you want, first of all, your resume should be unique, interesting, clear to read and have an attractive image. Of course, you’d better highlight the features that will interest the reader. And it would be sensible for you to keep your resume to a limited length. Properspacing on the page will make it easier to read quickly. Secondly, personal appearance and manner of speaking are very important in a job interview. It is believed that you can never have a second chance to give others your first impression. So you should always brush you hair tidily, dress yourself neatly and properly when going to an interview. If you bear these two points in mind, your chances to gain success in the job hunting will be very big. Wish you good luck.4.Tourism in My CityTourism is a window on the world. By getting in touch with different kinds of people, both travelers and local people can get an invaluablechance to learn about different ways of thinking and appreciate the virtues of different cultures. Cultural exchanges often bring about economic cooperation and better relations. Therefore, tourism can be very beneficial to both the travelers and the local people. However, tourism also has some drawbacks. Places eager to attract tourists might adoptsome temporary and irresponsible measures to fulfilltheir aims, and break balance of nature and damage the natural resources in the end. Moreover, tourists pouring into a resort might bring foreign diseases to the local place.Nevertheless, tourism is a very important industry. Adequate tourism-related industries have to keep up with the development in the area so as to enable both the travelers and thelocal economy to benefit from tourism.5.Correct Attitude Towards BooksRespecting knowledge is a good tradition in our country. However , people do hold different attitudes towards books. Some regard books as the only source of knowledge. They bury themselves in books to look for whenever confronting problems in life. Some regard books nothing more than a decoration for the bookshelf. They distrust knowledge from books and only believe in their own experience. In my opinion, neither of the two extremes is correct. Good books are based on the knowledge and experience. They could help us avoid many twists and turns in life. But we should use such knowledge appropriately according to different situations. Besides, there are books written for purposes other than benefiting readers. So the most rational attitude is first to tell the good from the evil, and to make the best use of good books.6.My Favorite Class This SemesterMy favorite class this semester is a speech class in argumentation. I like the class partly because the teacher inspires me to think, partly because the class causes me to read about problems in the world, but mostly because it gives me the opportunity to exchange ideas with other students.Class discussions are especially interesting. They may cover a range of topics from politics or science to art or religion. Some discussions are really eye-openers for us. For example, once we argued about the advantages and disadvantages of China’s joining the WTO. It really made us think more deeply about our own views on the subject. We never fall asleep in the speech class because it demands so much participation. I do hope other classes are as interesting and exciting as the speech class.7. Parents Are Only One Influence in Their Children’s DevelopmentAlthough parents are the first significant influence, they are only one influence on their children’s development. Peers, siblings, teachers, relatives, and mass media are also influential.Peer influence becomes increasingly important and remains so until college years. The values and behaviors of our friends andage-mates are likely to be mirrored in our own. Siblings are not necessarily peers, but they too have an important and sometimes lasting effect on each other’s development. Relatives may also be significant childbearing agents, especially grandmothers and aunts. Teachers become influential once a child begins school, and they remain so as long as the child is exposed to education system. The mass media also play a big role in children’s development. Television is a major means of exhibiting language, values, and life style to children. So it is obvious that although parents often take the credit and the blame for the way their children turn out, they are only one among many influences.二、阅读1.
