while walking the dog是“连词+分词短语”结构,是状语从句while you were walking the dog的省略形式。
当when, while, before, after, unless, as if等状语从句中的主语与主句主语一致或从句的主语为it,且从句谓语中含有be动词时,省略从句中的主语和be动词。
省略后从句的形式:连词+形容词/副词/现在分词/过去分词。
