差不多有三亿二千万的人口把英语作为第一语言，这相当于说西班牙语的人的总数，但比起汉语和印度语来还是少些。
全世界说英语的人口总数估计将达到四亿六千万，仅次于中文普通话。
英语是印度、南非和许多其它亚非国家地区的第二语言。
