April Fools' Day
April Fools' Day or All Fools' Day,
although not a holiday in its own right, is a notable day celebrated in many countries on April 1.
• It really was April Fools' Day for Mike.
April Fools' Day
Traditionally, in some countries, the jokes only last until noon: like UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, someone who plays a trick after noon is called an "April Fool". Elsewhere, such as in Ireland, France, and the USA, the jokes last all day.
• “A test?” said Tom. “Really?” • "Yes, it's quite true," said Mike. "When I
was by Mr Hill's room, he was talking to another teacher about a test. I think there will be a science test this afternoon. Tell Paul and Kathy about it."
• But not Mike. He was laughing to himself at his classmates. “What fools!” he thought. “April fools.”
• When class began, Mr Hill said to the students, “Class, we are going to have a test today.”
The day is marked by hoaxes and other practical jokes on friends, family members, enemies, and neighbors, or sending them on fool’s errand.
