• Canada is a federation composed of ten provinces and three territories. In turn, these may be grouped into regions: Western Canada, Central Canada, Atlantic Canada, and Northern Canada (the latter made up of the three territories: Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut).

• The first inhabitants are believed to have come to Canada from Asia about 12,000 years ago. • The European discovery of Canada can be traced back to the end of the 15th century. Two men are important in the early discovery of Canada; John Cabot (约翰.卡伯特），an Italian sea captain and Jacpques Cartier (雅克.卡特尔)，a French navigator. • In 1535, Jancques Cartier sailed up the St. Lawrence River. • In 1608, Samuel de Champlain (萨缪尔.德.尚普兰)，the French explorers established his habitation in what is now Quebec City to lay the roots of French Canada. • After the Seven Years' War from 1756 to 1763, the French were forced to give up every inch of land in North America and the whole Canada came under the British rule.
