The creed and motto are meant to spur the athletes to embrace the Olympic spirit and perform to the best of their abilities.
Torch relay
The design of the 2008 Olympic Torch was based on traditional scrolls and used a traditional Chinese design known as the "Propitious Clouds" (祥 云). The relay, with the theme "Journey of Harmony", lasted 130 days and carried the torch 137,000 km

Olympic Torch
Olympic torch was first lighted in 1936. Torch originated from a Greek legend. And since the 1936 Berlin Olympic Game, before each Olympic Games, the lighten ceremony would be hold at Heraion Temple in Olympia. The Greek girl would use the lens to get tinder and light the torch, and then they would deliver the torch to Athens. The torch would be conveyed from Athens to the host city. And the torch should arrive at the host city one day before the opening ceremony. Then at the opening ceremony, the torch would be used to light the Olympic flame in the main athletics hall. The Olympic flame would be kept until the end of the Olympic game.
The Modern Olympics
The modern Olympic Games are the leading international sporting event featuring summer and winter sports competitions. The Olympic Games are held every four years, with the Summer and Winter Games alternating, meaning they each occur every four years but two years apart. Their creation was inspired by the ancient Olympic Games, which were held inOlympia, Greece, from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD. Baron Pierre de Coubertin founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894.

* Origin: The Olympic Games were a series of athletic competitions among representatives of city-states of Ancient Greece. They were held in honor of Zeus . The ancient Olympics were as much a religious festival as an athletic event. Artistic expression was a major part of the games. Sculptors, poets and other artisans would come to the games to display their works in what became an artistic competition.

The Olympic Creed reads: "The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well."

The Modern Olympics
The Five Wreaths of Olympics Wherever the five wreaths turn to, wherever the Olympic goes. The five wreaths can have the single color or five colors, which are blue, yellow, black, green and red. The five wreaths mean the unity of the five continents and the athletes who come from all over the world should compete with each other fairly, frankly and friendly in the Olympic Games.
