牛津大学英文介绍

the University of Oxford
The university of Oxford is found in 1906 and it is the oldest university in the English-speaking world. It's renowned as one of the top 5 universities on the planet. It has over 22000 students in total. Among them, over 13000 are undergraduate students, and over 9000 postgraduate students. There are also many Chinese students, approximately 1000. This university has an long and profound history so people can hear a lot of anecdotes. First and foremost, that 26 UK prime ministers were educated at Oxford. Even Cambridge was founded by Oxford alumni. The director of Harry Potter also likes Oxford, he used it as one of the primary filming locations. There are 38 colleges in total; they are spread over the town of Oxford.
1. The Rad Cam
It is definitely the most famous landmark in Oxford. Although it looks like a tiny little castle, it is really a library. Thanks to government regulation in the 1700s, Oxford's library is entitled to a copy o every book published in the country. It now holds about 11000000 books. The librarians here are also leaders in their field. The world's oldest museum is also in Oxford. It is called THE ASHMOLEAN.
2. The natural scenery in Oxford is marvelous. There are a lot of parks and gardens. Some college even own their own lakes and meadows. Magdalen College owns a plot of land called "the deer park". And there are many deer in the park.
3. Life at Oxford can be very busy: there are three semesters in a year. Each is only 8 weeks long. Oxford's education system is unique: it has one-on-one classes and tutorials. Each week, a tutor will meet with 2-3 students what they have learned during the courses and give them some assignments for the coming week. But students here also enjoy a fair amount of free time.
4.Food: the surprising food in Britain like fried fish, fried chips, fish and chips. And actually, there is a sort of culinary delicacy in Oxford: it is called kebab. It basic comes from a van, which stops at the gates of each college.
5. Croquet: it is kind weird British sport. British boys love to wear suits in summer, while drinking cocktails and playing croquet. The drinking culture at Oxford is prominent. There are also loads of cool parties arranged by colleges. Students come up with all kinds of games to make drinking even more fun.
6. Applying on Oxford: compared to American universities, UK universities pay more attention to the applicant's academic performance, rather than the extra-curricular activities that you have participated in. For postgraduate applicants, the admission process is less complicated than for undergrads. People only need to submit 4 documents. Number one: a CV/resume. Number two :a research proposal. Number three: servrial academic references. Number four: your official transcript.
7. Scholarships :for Chinese students, there are 3 types of Oxford scholarships: first the scholarship set up by CSC and Oxford. Second one is called Clarendon Fund and third one is department studentship. The first type of scholarship was created by cooperation between CSC and Oxford. Oxford covers study fees while CSC covers living expenses. This is the earliest scholarship Chinese students can get.。
