英语中经常容易混淆的词（一）
❶receive and take
receive是“接到，收到”的意思，它常和介词from引导的短语连用，表示“从……得到”
I have just received a letter from my brother. 我刚从我弟弟那里收到一封信。
take所包含的意思很多，有“拿走”的意思，它常和with、to、off、out of等介词连用。
如：Someone has taken my pen. 有人拿走了我的钢笔。
1. Yesterday I received a present from Aunt Jane. 昨天我收到了简姑姑的礼物。
2. Have you received a letter from him yet? 你已收到他的来信了吗？
3. I took the letter with me. 我随身带着那封信。
4. He has taken some flowers to her. 他带了一些花给她。
5. Why did you take this book off the shelf ?你为什么把书从书架上取下来？
❷salary and wages
salary:薪水,工资(指按月领取的)
He collects his salary at the end of each month．他每个月末领取工资。
wages:工资,常用复数(指按小时,按日计工的,每周领取的)
The workmen collected their wages at the end of the week．工人们每周末领工资。
❸borrow and lend
borrow:借来,借入(同介词from连用) borrow sth from sb 向某人借某物
He has never borrowed money from me. (1.5)
lend:借给,借出(与介词to连用) lend sth to sb 把某物借给某人
I asked him to lend me £20. I asked him to lend £20 to me.
❹ask and ask for.
ask (a question)问（一个问题）：After the lesson, he asked me a question．课后他问了我一个问题。
ask for (something)要求（某样东西）：He asked for an apple．他要一个苹果。
❺except, except for, apart from
三者都表示“除……以外”，有时可以互换，但except不用于句首，except for和apart from 则可以。
例句：
I invited everyone except George．除了乔治之外我请了每一个人。
Except for/Apart from this, everything is in order. 除此之外，其他都已就绪。
❻which of，either of，neither of, both of
这些短语用于两个人或两件事。
either of两者当中的任何一个
neither of两者都不
which of哪一个
both of 两者都
Which of the two do you want? 这两个你要哪一个？
Either of them will do．哪一个都行。
I like neither of them．我哪一个也不喜欢。
I bought both of them.这两个我都买了。
❼pay attention to, care, take care of, look after.
pay attention to 注意，关注
care 在乎，在意
take care of = look after照料，照顾
例句：
Please pay attention to the blackboard．请注意看黑板。
I don't care if he breaks his neck! 他就是折断颈骨，我也不在乎！
Don't worry about the garden. I'll t ake care o f/look after it while you are on holiday. 别担心花园，你度假的时候我会照顾它的。
Please take care of/look after the children for me when I am out. 我出去时请代我照看孩子。
❽ grow and grow up
grow(指人，动物）长大，长高，发育
grow up （指人）成熟
例句：
Children grow quickly. The grass has grown very high. 孩子们长得很快。
草长得很高。
Some people never grow up. 有些人总是成熟不起来。
❾besides and beside
besides prep 除……外
beside prep 在……旁边／身边
Come and sit beside me. 过来，坐到我的身旁。
Besides this photograph,I have a number of others. 除了这张照片外，我还有好几张其他的照片。
❿bring, take, and fetch
bring (brought,brought) 带来（由某处带来某物）
He brought the book with him when he came to see me．他来看我时把书带来了。
take (took,taken) 拿走（从某地或某人处带走某物）
He took the book with him when he left. 他走的时候把书带走了。
fetch取来（去某地取某物并带回）
I asked him to go to my room and fetch my glasses．我请他去我的房间取来我的眼镜。
