惊弓之鸟Birds Startled by the Mere Twang of a Bowstring战zhàn 国guó 时shí 期q ī（公gōng 元yuán 前qián403―221年nián 中zhōng 国guó中zhōng 原yuán 地d ì 区qū 各gè 诸zhū 侯hóu 国guó 连lián年nián 争zhēng 战zhàn 的de 时shí 代dài ）魏wèi 国guó 有yǒu 个gè 名míng 叫jiào 更gèng 羸léi 的de 人rén。
一y ī 天tiān，他t ā 对duì 国guó 王wáng说shuō：“我wǒ 只zhī 要yào 拉l ā 开kāi 弓gōng，空kōng 射shè 一y ī 下xià，就jiù 能néng 把bǎ 天tiān 上shàng 的de 鸟niǎo 射shè 下xià 来lái。
”国guó王wáng 不bù 相xiāng 信xìn。
更gèng 羸léi 便biàn 对duì 准zhǔn 天tiān 上shàng 飞fēi 来lái 的de 一y ī 只zhī 雁yàn 射shè 去qù，果guǒ 真zhēn 那nà 只zhī雁yàn 听tīng 到dào 拉l ā 弦xián 的de 声shēng 音yīn 就jiù 掉diào 了l e 下xià 来lái 。
国guó 王wáng 感gǎn 到dào 很hěn 奇q í 怪guài 。
更gèng 羸léi 说shuō，“那nà 是shì 一y ī 只zhī 受shòu 过guò 伤shāng 的de 雁yàn 。
它t ā 一y ī 听tīng 到dào 我wǒ 拉l ā 开kāi 弓gōng 弦xián 的de 声shēng 响xiǎng ，就jiù 惊jīng慌huāng 得de 支zhī 持chí 不bù 住zhù，自z ì 然rán 要yào 掉diào 下xià 来lái 了l e。
”In the Warring States Period, there was a man in the State of Wei called Geng Lei. One day he said to the king: 'I can shoot down birds by simply plucking my bowstring.' When the king expressed doubt, Geng Lei pointed his bow at a wild goose flying in the sky, twanged the bowstring, and the goose fell to the ground. Geng Lei said, 'This goose has been hurt in the past. Hearing the twang of the bowstring, it assumed that it was doomed. So it simply gave up trying to live.'“惊jīng 弓gōng 之zhī 鸟niǎo ”这z hè 个gè 成chéng 语y ǔ 比b ǐ 喻y ù 受shòu 过guò 惊jīng 恐kǒng 之zhī 后hòu，有yǒu 一y ī 点diǎn 动dòng 静jìng 就jiù特t è 别bié 害hài 怕pà。
This idiom means that if one has been frightened in the past one's will may become paralysed in a similar situation.毛遂自荐Mao Sui Recommending Himself战zhàn 国guó 时shí 代dài，秦qín 国guó 军jūn 队duì 攻gōng 打dǎ 赵zhào 国guó 的de 都dōu 城chéng。
赵zhào 国guó 的de 平píng 原yuán 君jūn 打dǎ算suàn 亲qīn 自z ì 到dào 楚chǔ 国guó 去qù 请qǐng 救jiù 兵bīng ，想xiǎng 挑tiāo 选xuǎn 一y ī 个gè 精jīng 明míng 能néng 干gàn 的de 人rén 一y ī 同tóng前qián 去qù。
有yǒu 一y ī 个gè 名míng 叫jiào 毛máo 遂suì 的de 人rén，自z ì 告gào 奋fèn 勇yǒng 愿yuàn 意y ì 同tóng 去qù。
平píng 原yuán 君jūn 到dào楚chǔ 国guó 后hòu，与y ǔ 楚chǔ 王wáng 谈tán 了l e 半bàn 天tiān，没méi 有yǒu 一y ī 点diǎn 结jié 果guǒ。
毛máo 遂suì 怒nù 气q ì 冲chōng 冲chōng地d ì 拿ná 着zhe 宝bǎo 剑jiàn ，逼b ī 近jìn 楚chǔ 王wáng ，终zhōng 于y ú 迫pò 使shǐ 楚chǔ 王wáng 答dá 应yìng 出chū 兵bīng ，与y ǔ 赵zhào 国guó 联lián合hé 共gòng 同tóng 抵d ǐ 抗kàng 秦qín 国guó。
In the Warring States Period, the State of Qin besieged the capital of the State of Zhao. Duke Pingyuan of Zhao planned to ask the ruler of the State of Chu personally for assistance. He wanted to select a capable man to go with him. A man called Mao Sui volunteered. When the negoti-actions between the two states were stalled because the ruler of Chu hesitated to send troops, Mao Sui approached him, brandishing a sword. At that, the ruler of Chu agreed to help Zhao, against Qin.“毛máo 遂suì 自z ì 荐jiàn ”这zhè 个gè 成chéng 语y ǔ 用yòng 来lái 比b ǐ 喻y ù 自z ì己j ǐ推tuī 荐jiàn 自z ì己j ǐ，不bù 必b ì 别bié 人rén 介jiè绍shào。
This idiom means to recommend oneself.世外桃源A Haven of Peace and Happiness东dōng晋jìn的de文wén学xué家jiā陶táo渊yuān明míng写xiě了l e一y ī片piàn著zhù名míng的de文wén章zhāng叫jiào《桃 花 源 记》t áo h u āy u án j ì。
叙x ù 述shù 一y ī 个gè 渔y ú 人rén 出外chūwài 捕bǔ 鱼y ú 的de 时shí 候hòu ，偶ǒu 然rán 来lái 到dào 了l e 桃táo 花huā源yuán 这zhè 个gè 地d ì 方fāng。
从cóng 这zhè 里l ǐ 通tōng 过guò 一y ī 个gè 山shān 洞dòng，发f ā 现xiàn 了l e 一y ī 个gè 村cūn 子z ǐ，这zhè 里l ǐ的de 居j ū 民mín 是shì 秦qín 朝cháo 时shí 避b ì 难nán 人rén 的de 后hòu 代dài 。
