QJ series gas relay is mainly used to protect all kinds of type oil-immersed totally-enclosed transformer. When the transformer is running, the gas gathers in the gas gathering chamber of the gas relay because the inner trouble creates gas. When the transformer runs normally, there is full of transformer oil inside the gas relay. When there is trouble inside the transformer, the gas caused by the decomposition of transformer oil gathers in the gas gathering chamber of the relay. The gas pressure forces the oil level to drop. The floater drops along with it and link the magnetic switch K1 or K2 to be on.（Type QJ2-40TH-S K1a、K2a on, K1b、K2b off）。
当气体达到报警气体容积时，磁性开关K1吸合（QJ2-40TH-S型K1a闭合, K1b开启），接通信号回路，发出报警信号。
若由于其它原因（如渗漏油等）油箱内的油位下降，同样作用于信号回路发出报警信号。
When the gas reaches the alarm gas volume, the magnetic switch K1 operates（Type QJ2-40TH-S K1a on, K1b off）, switches on signal loop and releases alarm signal. If the oil level of oil box drops because of other reasons (for example oil leakage and so on), it also acts on the signal loop and releases alarm signal.当变压器内部发生严重故障时，将会产生大量气体，当气体达到切除气体容积以上时，磁性开关K2吸合（QJ2-40TH-S 型K2a闭合, K2b开启），发出切除信号，切除装置动作，将变压器从电网中切除，从而达到保护变压器的目的。
When there is serious trouble inside the transformer, plenty of gas will be created. When the gas reaches more than the cutting off gas volume, the magnetic switch operates （Type QJ2-40TH-S K2a on, K2b off）and releases the cutting off signal.
