二、历史沿革The University of Maryland at Baltimore was founded in 1807 as the MarylandCollege of Medicine. In 1812, it was rechartered as the University of Marylandand given the authority to establish additional faculties in law, divinity, andarts and sciences. The faculty of law was founded in 1816, though it operatedintermittently until 1868. The faculty of arts and sciences also operatedintermittently in the 19th century. From 1907 to 1920, St. John's Collegefunctioned as the University of Maryland's faculty of arts and sciences; thisloose federation was dissolved in 1920 when the Maryland State College, thestate's land grant college, became part of theUniversity of Maryland.In 1970,the Maryland General Assembly established a five-campus University of Marylandnetwork comprising the University of Maryland at Baltimore, University ofMaryland Baltimore County, University of Maryland, College Park, University ofMaryland Eastern Shore, and the University of Maryland University College with asystem-wide president in College Park and a chancellor in charge of each campus;in 1988 this institution was merged with the State University and College Systemof Maryland to form the University System of Maryland.马里兰大学巴尔的摩分校成立于1807年，最初是是马里兰州医学院。

四、校园环境1.概况The campus is composed of 58 buildings located near Camden Yards andBaltimore's famous Lexington Market. Construction on a new 114,000-square-foot(10,600 m2) campus center began at the start of 2007 and opened in August 2009as the Southern Management Corporation Campus Center (SMC Center). The SMCCenter contains dining facilities, meeting locations and the campus's gymnasiumand recreation facility, URecFit. UMB has also recently undertaken a vast westcampus expansion. This 10-acre (40,000 m2) project, known as BioPark, willcreate ten new buildings containing a total of 1,200,000 square feet (110,000m2) of classroom, lab, and office space.In addition, University of MarylandMedical System has cleared a downtown site for the construction of a $329million ambulatory care center.校园由位于卡姆登码和巴尔的摩着名的列克星敦市场附近的58座建筑组成。
