Language pointsget round to doing sth: 终于去做(久已想做但因太忙、太懒等而未作的事); 腾出时间做某事e.g.: I’m very busy at the moment but I hope to get round to answering yourletter next week. 目前我很忙,希望下周能抽出时间给你回信。

get by: be good enough but not very good; manage to live or do things in a satisfactory way 过的去,尚可;勉强应付e.g.: It is a little bit difficult for the old couple to get by on such a small pension(养老金).Keep sb. in sth.: give sb. a regular supply of sth. 使…经常有某事物e.g.: Our hens keep us in eggs, with several dozen left over to sell eachweek.自己养的鸡提供鸡蛋,每周还能剩余几十个去出售。

Just About: almost, very nearlye.g.: This job is just about done. 这件工作差不多做完了。

The heating season: “heating” here means “加热”,“供热”,so “heating season” actually refers to the winter.... when it was 30 below: Here the Fahrenheit scale (华氏度) is used instead of the Celsius scale (摄氏度), Celsius degree= Fahrenheit degree* 9/5 + 32e.g.: 30 below: 零下30华氏度 95 above: 零上95华氏度haul:1) transport, as with a truck, cart, etc. 用车搬运e.g.: The rescue team hauled medical supplies and food to the floodedvillages.2) pull or drag sth. with effort or force 用力拖e.g.: Rescue workers hauled passengers out of the crashed train.营救人员把乘客从发生事故的火车中拖救出来。

In pursuit of: 在追求…方面demanding: 1) 费力的,需要技能的;2) 苛求的,要求过高的e.g.: a demanding job 繁重的工作a demanding mother 苛刻的母亲get through: come successfully to the ende.g.: She got through the entrance examination and was accepted by thecollege.at that point: at that very moment, right thene.g.: The man suddenly held up a poster. pick up: 1) be ready to pay2) take up by hand 拿起,捡起3) To take on (passengers or freight) 承载(客人, 货物等)4) To acquireBe stuck with sth./doing sth.: 不得不做某事,被迫应付…e.g.: We were stuck with unexpected visitors.Cover: it is a very commonly used word, and here it means “To protect by insurance” (入保险加以保护). Besides, it has several other usages as follows:1) To extend over 延伸,遍及e.g.: a farm covering more than 100 acres (英亩).2) To travel or pass overe.g.: They covered 60 miles in two days. 他们两天走了60英里。

3) To be responsible for reportinge.g.: Two reporters covered the news story. 两名记者负责报导这则新闻。

aside from: except for; in addition to (more usual in American English; same as apart from)e.g.: This essay is good aside from a couple of spelling mistakes.They were going to have other expenses, aside from the school fees.Policy: 大家常见的意思是“政策,方针”,但是本文中意思是“保险单”。

cut back:reduce in size or amount (used in the patterns:cut back sth.; cut back on sth.)e.g.: There is a growing movement to cut back the government's role inagriculture and to reduce subsidies (补助金) paid to farmers.suspect: 1) v. 有存在或属实的想法,相信e.g.: He ~ed an ambush(埋伏). 他怀疑有埋伏。

~ sb of (doing) sth.怀疑某人有某种罪e.g.: What makes you ~ her of having taken the money?2) v. 怀疑e.g.: I ~ the truth of your statement. 我怀疑你陈述内容的真实性。

3) n. 嫌疑人doubt: 1) n. 怀疑e.g.: ~ about sth./that /whether …; no/beyond/without~ 毫无疑问…1) v. 怀疑 ~ sth./that …/whether…e.g.: I doubt whether he will come. 我怀疑他是否能来。

通过以上我们可以看出:doubt一般是对其后面的事情表示怀疑(不相信);而suspect 既可以对其后面的事情表示怀疑,也可以表示对其后面事情的可能性表示相信,其意思需要通过上下文或其句型来确定。

budget: 预算e.g.: The General Assembly has exclusive authority to set the UN budget, paidfor by all members according to an agreed quota.只有联合国大会有权为联合国制定预算,预算由各成员国按照约定的配额支付。
