音节的核心是元音，元音可以单独构成音节，也可以与辅音字母一起构成音节。
辅音音素不响亮，不能构成音节。
元音音素是构成音节的主体，辅音是音节的分界线。
两元音音素之间有一个辅音音素时，辅音音素归后一音节，两个辅音音素时，一个辅音音素归前一因节，一个归后一音节。
英语的词有一个音节的，两个音节的，一个音节的叫单音节词，两个音节的叫双音节词，三个音节以上的叫多音节词。
双音节与多音节单词必须有一个音节重读，重读音节用“”标示。
次读重音节用“”标示。
单音节词一般不重读。
