Lord of War
Steel products cut into bullet shells, primer and gunpowder loaded, warhead installed, packed in a box, transported, loaded into the clip, get into the bore of gun, take aim and shoot, a lovely African child fell down.
A bullet finished its life and also accomplished its mission: to fetch a person's life. And then, the main play of the film Lord of War comes on.
Lord of War is a film adapted from true stories. It is a blockbuster about war, money and personal conscience. The main character Yuli Orlov is a big arms merchant. He was interested in weapons when he was young. And he convienced his brother to deal arms together with him. However, after he married, he decided to leave those illegal deals and become a law-abiding merchant. While after times of attempts and failures, he got back to his last. He believes in a self-deception way that arms are the same to other products, and so are arm merchants and other merchants. But he forgets the evil of wars behind arms. Eventually his brother died in a deal in Africa and his wife and children left him. And he himself was worn out by conscience.
Except for the consideration of human nature through this movie, there is something behind it. There is an unknown consequence of the Cold War that a great amount of arms were left over in the Former Soviet. Arm dealers like Yuli gained great wealth by stealing and selling those arms together with some military commanders.
What's more, the movie reflected many sad facts. His brother once said to Yuli: What, you opening a gun shop? There are already more gun shops than McDonald's in America. And there is also a reality Yuli already knows that when the United States leaves a war zone, they generally don't take their arms. It costs more to bring it back than to buy new ones. So these weapons are available to arm dealers. One word said by Yuli was impressed: The world’s biggest arms suppliers are The US, UK, Russia, France and China. They are also the five permanent members of The UN Security Council.
There are a lot of films that make us think about life, human nature and conscience. I like watching movies. And I think we should see something behind the drama and learn something through watching movies.
