As a student of medical college,Iread and learned lots of medical knowledge.While reading these medical books, it’s worth noticing that some books are so well-translated that we can achieve a betterunderstanding of medical knowledge and cultures. It shows that medical translation plays a big role in communicationbetweencultures.
The core of this paper is the function of medical translation in communication between cultures, butthe strategies of medical translationare still very important.In the first part of this paper, I will make a brief introduction ofmedicaltranslation, including its linguistic feature and strategies of translation.In the second part,I will introduce some medical translations from both the western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine,which contain lots of cultural background information as examples to show how good translations worked to help the understanding of themedical information, and more, the understanding of cultural background. Then, in thethirdpart, I will stress the significance ofmedicaltranslation. I’d like toshow the role oftranslation playingin thecross-culture communicationthrough the examples.

Abstract:With the rapid development of globalization, medical technology is spreadquicklyfrom country to country. Advanced medical technology can cure more diseases and save more people，while some traditional medicalcivilizationcan make some miracles. Therefore, people in all countries have great interests in medical cultures. Consequently, medical translation plays a vital role in cultural transmission. Medical translation, withspeciallinguistic feature, differs from other translations. At the same time, it makes the translation more difficult. However, through transliteration, pictographictranslation and other methods, translators can ponder over the words to make us know advanced medical technology. More importantly, we can enjoy cultures with each other and enhance cultural exchanges.

At present, the research of medical translation is badly needed. Although many people work on translation inChina, few of them study medical translation. Due to its high value of translation and the significance of spread in communications between cultures, more and more scholars pay high attention to the function of medical translation in communication between cultures.
内容摘要: 随着全球化的飞速发展，医疗技术得以在世界各国互相传播。先进的医疗技术可以治愈并挽救亿万生命，而一些古老的医学文明同样可以给世界带来奇迹。因此，各国人民都对彼此的医学文化有着浓厚的兴趣。由此，医学文献翻译在这种文化传递的过程中起着至关重要的作用。医学翻译,其自身独特的语言特征使得其与其他翻译区别开来。与此同时，这也给翻译过程增加了难度。但是通过如音译形译方法的使用，在翻译过程中稍加揣摩，使得读者既能了解国外医疗技术，更能领略对方的文化气息，增进文化交流。
