Analysis
When the fantasies and desires of a person turn into an obsession or an excess of greed of whatever it is he wants, usually it will drive a person to do extreme and irrational things that he wouldn't normally do. This greed often causes him to lose his sense of morals, his sense of self or possibly even his life.
Iago
Plot
Iago tells Cassio to ask Desdemona to intercede(调解) on his behalf and Desdemona agrees. When she does so in an innocent attempt to be helpful, she arouses Othello’s jealousy. He thinks that Desdemona has something going with Cassio.

Iago: Othello's ensign and Emilia's husband, a villain[坏人]. He hides his real nature under the veil of 'honesty'.

Plot
Cassio, who helped Othello woo his wife, has promoted to be his lieutenant.
Iago, an older soldier, was envious of Cassio’s promotion. He planed his revenge. Iago used Roderigo, “a guli'd Gentleman” in love with Desdemona, to fight with Cassio after he has got him drunk, so that Othello deprives him of his new rank.

Analysis
Jealousy is also often regarded as one main theme of Othello. Almost all the characters in the play are in some way jealous or are involved in jealousy. Othello, the essentially noble man, who is not “easily jealous”, has been infected by Iago’s jealousy and becomes a prey of jealousy.

Plot
Letters from the Duke of Venice arrive, recalling Othello to Venice and naming Cassio the new governor of Cyprus. To further his plan, Iago plan to kill Cassio ,but he wounds him finally. When Othello arrives,he believes Iago has killed Cassio, the Moor goes back to the castle for the awful task of executing(处决) his wife. Cassio is taken away for treatment.

Analysis
Evil conquers Othello with jealousy and destroys his nobleness. Subtle[微妙的] variations reduce him to a beast of fury and madness. The love that united man and woman, youth and maturity, black and white in marriage is shattered[破灭]．

Meanwhile, Iago’s wife Emilia has found a handkerchief dropped by Desdemona. Othello had given it to his wife as a gift. When Emilia shows it to Iago, he snatches it away and then plants the handkerchief in Cassio’s room. When Othello asks his wife for the handerchief and she cannot produce it, Othello becomes convinced that she gave it to Cassio and has been having affair with him.

Greed
Analysis
In Shakespeare's play, Iago's obsession for power and control cause him to lie and trick Othello into questioning his wife's love. If Othello weren‘t obsessed with his love for Desdemona, his mind would not unravel so easily. If Iago weren't so obsessed with power and control, then he wouldn't have to result to lies and deception. Both of these characters have been driven to act in unrational ways because of their obsessions.
