Are you for internationalization of English?
With the rapid development of economic, international
exchanges becomes more frequent. For a while, English, the most
widely used language in the world, becomes a topic of debate. Some
people believe that English becomes a cultural invader and
constitutes a threat to other languages. But other people take an
opposite side. They firmly believe that it plays an important role in
international communication. As far as I am concerned, the latter
opinion holds more weight.
First of all, English is the one of the most widely used
languages in the global. It is everywhere in everyday use and
understood by all or virtually all. It becomes an official language
and a role of cultural ambassador. It will not only help us
understand the world, adapt to the world’s latest trend and rich
cultural knowledge, but also communicate with people of other
countries conviently. What’s more, the benefits of international-
llization of English is conceivable that we can absorb foreign
advanced culture technologly and spread the outstanding culture of
our country to foreign countries. Last but not the least, it will
contribute to improving trades and increasing revenue.
However, many people see English as a cultural invader such
as the threat to the native language and the erosion of traditional
culture.
For good or ill, every coin has two sides. Likes many things,
English is at times a blessing and at times a curse in our globalizing
world endangered diversities. The users of the world’s language
should seek to benefit as fully as possible from the blessing and as
far as possible avoid invoking the curse.
