中国古代建筑类型介绍

In the Zhou Dynasty, a room with a big bed is the hall, a room with a small bed is the room.
The bedroom also refers to the meaning of the imperial palace.

The houses on both sides of the North-South distribution of the main house were commonly rehall 轩
The hall is a long gallery or room with a windowsill
临轩: In ancient times, the emperor did not sit at the main hall, but he received the minister on the front platform.
Dormitories(bedrooms) 寝
In ancient times, the hall without east west chamber was commonly called "bedroom".
In the south, the small room on the building is also called the pavilion. In ancient times, some women lived in places called “Pavilion” so women married and had the idea of “going out(出阁)".
Later people called the room where many people live together “Dormitory ”
Pavilion and hall 阁、楼
The hall is a house with a lot of layers.
However, according to ancient records, in ancient times, most of the halls that people lived in were two floors of wooden or southern bamboo. People don't live upstairs, but they put some sundries there

Terrace and Altar 台和坛
The terrace is high and flat.The building can be built on the terrace, or nothing.
Altar is larger and higher than terrace.

hall 殿(堂)
After the Han Dynasty, people used to call the 堂(hall) “殿 (Hall)", and later people specifically referred to the hall in the imperial palace.
Pavilion 亭
In ancient times, pavilion is the houses of the public ,it was built on the roadside to allow passengers to stay.
At present, a pavilion in a garden refers to a building with a top and no wall.
堂(hall)——A place where people conduct ceremonies, handle official duties or receive guests, do not live here 室(room)——A place where people live. 房(room)——A more private place of residence
