It shall be uniform in chemistry and quality; clean, sound and free from all surface and internal defects detrimental to the fabrication, performance or appearance of the parts for which it is intended. The specified proof load for the nut (See Table 3) shall be applied against the nut in an axial direction. Use of such means is permissible provided the nut is removable by the fingers following an initial loosening of not more than one-half turn of the nut.)
