Topic 1Alcohol should be banned.Alcohol is not something like water, or air that is required to live on this earth. Alcohol consumed in smaller amounts and occasionally is good for health but the majority of people cannot limit their amount of alcohol intake once they have started consuming it. We ordinary people cannot even limit the food intake so how can we limit alcohol intake once we start consuming it. One of the THIRUKURAL (verse of THIRUVALLUVAR,a divine sage of Tamil origin) lays emphasis that every man should be away from habits like drinking, smoking. Drinking spoils not only the individual but also his entire family. It is drunkards who beat their wives unnecessarily because they lose their reasoning power. There is one saying in Tamil 'KUDI KUDIYE KEDUKKUM' meaning drinking ruins your entire family. Hence I wish that government should ban alcohol consumption and consuming alcohol should be treated like a crime just like theft, murder etc. That is the most successful way of protecting our society and hence our country and path towards common good.It is dangerousToo many people are immature enough that they partake in alcohol and don't think about the consequences. They could get in a car and kill someone, damage property, be sexually assaulted, or even just make a complete ass of themselves. I don't see how drinking alcohol contributes to society at all. It becomes an addiction. It's a hazard as well and it impairs judgement to an extreme amount. There is no reason that alcohol is used, except as either an escape, to get someone to lower their inhibitions, or because everybody else is doing it. These aren't reasons to allow drinking. There is no reason to drink alcohol, and once people see that by breaking free from the facade of a "good time" or that "it is fun", we will see what truly a waste of time, money, and life drinking is, not to mention long term use leading to illnesses and death of yourself on top of hurting innocent bystanders.Alcohol should be banned since it serves no other purpose than to get people drunk and kill kids.We should BAN Alcohol. 11,000 people are KILLED each year in America just from Alcohol related car crashes. Just recently a teacher and her unborn child were KILLED when a drunk hit them head on.Alcohol is NOT a right. It serves no other purpose then to get people DRUNK and inebriated and kill innocent families and children.1. It is the obligation of the government to protect the citizens from the ill effects of harmful substances. Alcohol alters the mind of a person which can cause such individual to take actions which they would not take otherwise. It is not about loses inhibitions but extends to dangerous acts which can harm the person and others also. It is the responsibility of the government to protect its citizens including those who behave irresponsibly by consuming harmful substantial like alcohol. Such a ban would help these individuals in making significant contribution towards the society which they could not make if they consume alcohol in large quantities.2. A ban on alcohol would protect third parties like family members. Alcohol is the cause of a large number of disputes and distress in the society. It causes psychological problems for the children whose parents consume alcohol. They number of children with at least one alcoholic parent is increasing throughout the world. These children should not be made to suffer if their parents have decided to indulge in alcoholism. Psychological studies have shown that a large number of children coming from alcohol abuse families face problems like loneliness, guilt, fear of abandonment, feeling of helplessness, low self esteem and chronic depression. In some cases the children even start feeling themselves responsible for the problems created by the alcoholic person. Apart from the psychological damage it also causes great physical harm. Alcohol has always been an easy accuse domestic violence and the incidents of domestic abuse are higher in households where there is alcohol abuse.3. A ban on alcohol would result in healthier individuals. A ban on alcohol would also have a positive impact on the health of the individuals. Long lasting abuse of alcohol leads to several chronic diseases like pancreatitis, liver cirrhosis, high blood pressure and different types of cancers including mouth, liver, larynx, throat and esophagus. A ban on alcohol would decrease the rate of consumption as has been seen in case of the present drug laws. Therefore a ban on alcohol would decrease the cases of alcohol addiction and also reduce the financial burden caused by health problems among the alcoholics.Topic 2Whereas grammar is quite improtant in writing, the conversational skills are quite helpful in both speaking and writing areas.Grammar is important than the communication skills because it is the language that makes it possible for us to talk about language. by Grammar you are write names the different of words, and you make sentences, so you can use your grammar skills when you are want communicate, if you Know grammar, your speech will be very obvious, and you will follow by the structure. We all know how to build a sentence, but we do not know how to build a beauty sentence so for this we need to learn by grammar. And knowing about grammar offers a window into the human mind and into our amazingly complex mental capacity.Grammar should be studied more than the conversation skills. With good grammar skills, comes good conversation skills. I don’t think you'd be able to communicate with other people very much if you have no idea of the language that you are talking in.Studying grammar is more important than practicing conversationGrammar is the subject that people should learn and understand it. Grammar helps us to know the situation that what kind of grammars do they use? And it can also help people get more understanding by using correct grammar in speaking. When you have a good grammar skill then u will have a beauty conversationGrammar is more importantEven while giving a speech people will also see your grammar, the way you pronounce the words, how you form sentences and many more. So it is important to learn grammar even while giving a speech. And also while having a conversation you must also know grammar so that the person with whom you are having a conversation can understand what are you talking about.Studying grammar is more important than practicing conversational skills.Grammar is not only a n important thing to learn but it is also a way of life for me and for many. You cannot have a conversation without using correct grammar. There are many reasons for this, one being that grammar is used in everyday life all around the world. People often stress grammar and make it boring for students, this makes many people not want to go through the process of learning grammar because it is discouraging to them.Grammar helps speakers understand the proper usage of language.Conversational language skills help users learn to communicate on a basic level. Grammar, however, defines the proper usage of a language. Since others, particularly in a business environment, often base their ideas of a person's level of intelligence on proper usage of language, grammar is a very important aspect of language study.Studying grammar is more important than practicing conversation skills.Grammar is the most important part of a language since it explains the rules. Although conversational skills are also important, even the most talkative person needs to know the rules of a language. Also, it is easier to learn speaking skills than grammar. Students should learn the rules when they are in school.Topic 3The learning in science-program class XI 2 was started from making a group consisting of 5-6 students that was made heterogeneous of those who used and didn’t use smartphones. Since students who were not belonged to the samples also participated in the learning activities, so in each group there were students who used smartphones and also the package of data available to be used in the learning activities. Both teacher and researcher had provided learning websites for each meeting that consisted of different learning materials. This had the purpose of ensuring whether the learning materials were relevant or not. After given the materials briefly, students joined their group and discussed the materials delivered by the teacher, where each group received different materials. After given the time to discuss, students presented their result of discussion in front of the class. After that, other groups were given chances to ask questions to the group that currently presented their result. Each group then answered the questions coming from other groups. This process was in line with the research findings of Barakati (2011) that claimed the learning with smartphones had collaborative impact of sharing information easily with students in the groups.Learning activities with smart phones more facilitated students and attracted students to learn, so that their perspective extended rather than they used course books only. Learning activities with smartphones also led students more active in the teaching and learning process since they could autonomously search for materials that were not available in the books, so that they could more understand the topics of learning materials in each meeting. This finding is supported by the finding of Rusman (2011) that confirmed if smartphones assisted students to increase knowledge and facilitated more extended education distribution; yielded accurate and up-to-date lesson materials; and the learning activities can be carried out interactively. The result of the study showed that the science-program class XI 2 using smartphones had the higher average score of critical thinking compared with science-program class X1 3 that did not use smartphones. It can be explained that students who learned with smartphones in the classroom learning appeared to be more active in the discussion. Each member of a group worked well together in discussing the material given by the teacher, and they were very enthusiastic in the discussion / question and answer session between groups. The questions asked by students were also more meaningful. This happened since learning with smartphones could make students’ perspectives more open and at once made students get a lot of knowledge that was not covered and included in the course books. Each group also revealed high competitiveness to show the best result in the discussion. The difference was clearly visible in the science-program class XI 3 where the learning activities were more monotonous since they only relied on their own textbooks. Although teachers used STAD learning model, students still looked less active compared with students who learned with smartphones. This was presumably since only a few students seemed to be active in each group, thus this influenced the results of the discussion presented. The questions asked during the question and answer session were only based on the materials given in the book, so students’ perspective was not extended compared with their learning by using smartphones. Based on this finding it was clear that the use of smartphones had positive effect on students' learning activities. These findings were in line with the arguments of Sarwar and Soomro (2013) which stated that students could find all information they need with smartphones, especially through browsing the internet. Browsing the Internet with smartphones made students more easily get the information so that they had better thinking skills and simultaneously could improve their learning outcomes.Based on the result of the study it was revealed that there was the effect of using smartphones on students' critical thinking skill. This could be seen from the average score of the post-test in both classes comprising of treatment and control classes. The average score of science-program class XI 2, the treatment class, which learned with smartphones before given the treatment was 44.48 while the average score of science-program class XI 3, the control class, was 41.92. After given the treatment the average score of science-program class XI 2 increased up to 82.20 while the average score of science-program class XI, the control class that did not use smartphones, was 75.40. The comparison between pre-test and post-test clarified that the effect was not seen much significant after the given treatment of learning activities were carried out although the post-test score on the treatment class was found higher than the score of the post-test score in the control class. These findings were supported by the arguments of Rusman (2011) which stated that learning with smartphones can be held interactively, so the learning attracts students and allows interested parties (parents and teachers) to contribute to the success of the learning process.Viewed from the analysis result of research data, it was obtained that the value of t calculation 4.30 and t tabulation 2.0 at the level of significance 0.05. Based on these calculation, t calculation was higher than the t tabulation (4.30 > 2.01). Thus Ho was rejected while Ha was accepted therefore it was concluded that there lied the effect of using smartphones on the students’ critical thinking skill of science-program class XI of Senior High School 5 Samarinda year 2013/2014. This finding was in line with the argument given by Sugiyono (2009), i.e. when t calculation is higher than the t tabulation then there is the effect of the given treatment on the desired results. Viewed from the test results of the data analysis in Appendix 6, it was found that the science-program class XI 2 that used smartphones in learning obtained higher scorecompared with science-program class XI 3 that did not use smartphones. This proves that learning with smartphones has effect on students’ learning outcomes. This occurred since learning with smartphones had advantages, that is, it could make students more interested in the learning activities and students could easily capture the lesson in the classroom since they were given the responsibility to search for more learning materials through their smartphones so that learning activities became more relaxed and enjoyable. Students also had extensive knowledge so that the learning outcomes were better compared with students who only used course books. This relates to the study result of Barakati (2011) where smartphones was used to learn anywhere, to share information and to motivate students to learn, as well as the findings of Smarabawa (2013) where learning with science-based models, especially by using smartphones, had positive effect on students’ learning outcomes because the use of the gadget could increase the students’ creative thinking ability in relation to the comprehension in the biology lesson.Topic 4 (见手机)Topic 5Cell phones are goodI believe that cell phones SHOULD be allowed in public schools for many reasons. They are good for education, safety, and much more.1. Cell phones are good for education. Cell Phones are good for education for many reasons. First you can use cell phones for research purposes. Although most schools have at least 1 computer in the classroom and a computer lab, sometimes this still isn’t enough. It can also be expensive to provide a computer to each student at school, so a good option is to use cell phones for research instead. Next, I want to talk about why apps are good for education. Some people think that some apps are bad and kids will get distracted and use them in class. And the truth is that cell phones have many educational apps as well. Which do you think would be more fun and exciting for a student? Either studying with a boring book that is hard to understand, or playing an educational app that is still studying, but much more exciting. Iwould definitely choose the second choice. Here are some good features of phones that are good for school: 1.Calculator. It doesn’t matter if your phone is expensive or not, almost every single phone has a calculator. Lots of students are required to have a calculator as one of their school supplies, but if they have one on their phone, then they don’t have to get one. 2. Stop Watch. Lots of phones have a stopwatch, which can be used in science class. I know that when I was in public school we used stopwatches all the time for experiments, and the teacher only had 3 stopwatches so we had to take turns. 3. Dictionary. Cell phones can be used as a dictionary, which can be VERY useful in a classroom setting. You can always search on the Internet for the definition, or if you classroom or school doesn’t have wi fi, you can text to 466-456 the word you need defined and Google will text you back the definition of that term.2. Cell phones keep you safe. Believe it or not, a cell phone could save your life. Here is an example: On April 20, 1999, 2 teenagers walked into Columbine High school carryingsub-machine guns and homemade bombs intending to do some major damage. 13 innocent students were murdered and many more would have been if it weren’t for some students and their cell phones. 1 student, hiding for his life, calls 911 and describes the location of the school, and what the murderers looked like. If it weren’t for him and his cell phone and many o thers, many other students would have died. There are many other true stories like this one where people’s lives were saved because of cell phones.Students should definitely be able to use their phones during class. A phone is a great device. It can used for many educational things like research, projects, calculators, and even putting in important dates when a homework assignment or a project is due. You can also use a phone to call or text your parents if maybe you forgot your lunch at home, need lunch money so you can eat at school, or to let them know that you have tutorials after school that day. There are many things that phones are useful for.Cellphones in class: the learning and safety tool.Pretty much everywhere, cell phones are banned because most people say it's distracting. Teachers don't want kids texting in class when they're trying to teach them important things. But the truth about more modern phones is they can be a great learning tool. Students can use calculators (most likely not during math), stopwatches, timers, educational apps, the internet, and more with their mobile phones nowadays. School filters can connect with the wifi and be used to filter specific things that need to be filtered. Also, cell phones should also be used for safety. The employees at a school say you don't need to use your phone to contact people but what if something happens like the school phone line goes dead? Also, if you need a phone number the school doesn't have, it will most likely be under your contacts list. And if students might need to contact a student in another class for something important, they can always contact them. And if a student is sick, they can Facetime or Skype another student during class to watch the lesson and not miss anything important.。
