Might, could, would, and should are modal verbs that do no change: ‘It might be delayed.’- ‘She said it might be delayed.’ ‘We should be boarding now.’ – ‘She said we should be boarding now.’ The past simple also often stays the same: ‘We checked in at 08:00.’ – ‘She said they checked in at 08:00.’ ‘The plane arrived on time.’- ‘She said the plane arrived on time.’

luggage booked
Dear Mr. Gibbons,
Last week I booked a trip to New York, for business. I bought a first class round trip. When I checked in, the receptionist charged me extra for my luggage. However, that was already paid for. I was also not notified that my flight was going to be delayed. Once I had boarded the aircraft, the flight attendant was very rude when seating me. Once we took off from China everything seemed to be going alright. Once we landed in Seoul, Korea to transfer to another flight, I forgot my passport and boarding pass in the aircraft. When I went back to get it, the air crew did not let me back on the plane. Only after a long discussion did they get my boarding pass and passport for me. I feel this should not require a discussion. Finally, when I landed in New York, it turned out my luggage was lost. It has been a week now and I still have not received my luggage. I have called with your customer service multiple times now, and every time they tell me to wait. I feel that for a first class passenger, the customer service should definitely be better than this. I’m writing you now as a last resort to finally get my luggage back. I hope you can help me, With regards, James Clifford
2. Prepare the assignment for part 2. Try to think of the four mistakes your company made, and the mistake Mr. Clifford made. 3. Prepare the grammar in part 3. 4. Read the dialogue in part 4. Part 3: Grammar
When we report speech we use a different tense than the actual message. This is because we report at a later time than the message; we talk about the past. For example: James said: ‘I believe the plane is late.’ (present simple) Sandy: ‘James said he believed the plane was late.’ (past simple) Direct Speech Example He said: ‘It is done.’ He said: ‘It departs at 5 AM.’ He said: ‘It is taking off.’ He said: ‘It took off.’ He said: ‘It has landed.’ He said: ‘It will be delayed.’ He said: ‘He can board.’ Reported Speech Example ‘He said it was done.’ ‘He said it departed at 5 AM.’ ‘He said it was taking off.’ ‘He said it had taken off.’ ‘He said it had landed.’ ‘He said it would be delayed.’ ‘He said he could board.’
