• Xu Yuanchong first came up with the thoery of three beauties---ideological/semantic beauty, sound/music beauty and formal beauty in 1979. • Among them, the ideological beauty is of the first importance; the sound beauty is of the secondrank importance; the formal beauty is of the third-rank importance. • If we cannot maintain the three kinds of beauties, a translator should convey the ideological beauty and sound beauty at least.
