Life of pi
------“Then Richard Parker, companion of my torment, awful, fierce thing that kept me alive, moved forward and disappeared forever from my life.”
“Life of pi” is a 3D film which was adapted from Yann Martel’s novel of the same name. Chinese Ang Lee is director. The film tells a story about an Indian boy encountered a shipwreck and the whole family were died. Then he was drifting on a lifeboat for 227 days with a Bengal tiger called Richard Parker. He established a curious relationship with tiger and finally overcame the difficulty to get rebirth.
I was immersed in the thought for a long time after I saw the film. In this film, Pi’s father represents practicism, claim believes in yourself, not god. This is a survival rule of his father as an atheist left him. While Pi’s mother represents another view, to be a person with faith, with confidence, with patience, and the world is beautiful, Pi finally was inspired by the reality of inner evil, became a demon from a boy who believes all goodliness, meanwhile that imply two sides of man.
There are two stories in film, one is about animals, one
is about human, but I think both are false. The real third story Pi dare not speak. That is brother killed the disabled father, then the mother, and Pi killed the brother and his first love girlfriend, and living by eating their meat. Pi is certainly that tiger. In the last, tiger’s leave means Pi was disillusioned from evil then turn to goodness. This is so Pi thanked to his father’s practicism which was keep him alive at the end.
Therefore the purport of film is man-eating. In order to survive people can even against their own holy faith in total situation, let alone the kinship or love. The film was also satirizing the cruelty of human nature and ridiculous religion, cause the audience to think: Are our heart all hide a tiger that we are unwilling to inspire so we cover with veneer? Or so-called “human nature”.。
