In small groups thestudents could then quiz each otherusing their questions.Reading (阅读)Readingforlearning◆This section starts withunderstanding the purposeof an introductionparagraph. It thenencourages Ss to analysethe behaviours of theanimals in the text and totransfer these concepts tothe human world.◆Vocabulary and GrammarSs look at a selection of newwords and phrases from the text,largely connected withgeography and the animalkingdom. The grammar sectionlooks at indefinite pronouns.◆Beyond the TextSs now look at human migration✧The first task shows students howthey can use an introduction to predictinformation that will appear in thetext. Tasks 3 will require more time asit requires detailed understanding.✧The first two vocabulary tasks drawon geographical words from the textand work on word formation.✧The last vocabulary task uses thewords in the context of anotherphenomenon from the animalkingdom.✧The Grammar Focus part looks atindefinite pronouns. While studentsobviously need to learn these words,they are also useful for developingstudents’ reading abilities as theyfunction in a similar way to pronounand the reasons for this. referents. You could refer students tothe text and show how they refer toideas both inside and outside the text.✧Beyond the text encourages Ss to reactto a short text on mass humanmigration. They also refer to masshuman migration in contexts fromtheir own knowledge. If you havetime you could bring in a shortadditional text on one migration storye.g. the Three Gorges Dam.Reading for doing ◆Ss read an article andresponses to the article onthe greatest inventions.◆Ss read a poem oninventions and think aboutthe negative side on someinventions.✧This section should take less timethan section A as the texts are lesscomplicated. They focus ondeveloping students’ everydayreading skills as they are reading andresponding to comments on an article.✧If you have more time, you could holda debate and ask the students to agreeon the worst invention of all time.Guided Writing ◆Notice of an event:(1) Announcing an event(2) Describing an event(3) Announcing important dates(4) Closing expressions ✧Before the students progress with thelesson you might want to ask studentsto discuss conferences they have beento or seen held at their university.✧When doing Task 2 you couldhighlight that this is also practicingthe reading skill of skimming.Audio/Video Lab ◆Ss watch a video showinghow some inventions werediscovered by accident andhow others were influencedby nature.(1) Practice ignoring propernouns(2) Students discuss otheraccidental inventions ✧Refer students back to the inventionsfrom Reading for Doing. If you havehad time, between classes you couldset students the task of finding outmore about each invention e.g. whenwas it invented, where and by who.✧For each part of the video you mightwant to play it twice.✧Students might need more supportwith Task 7. You may want to provideinformation as a jigsaw reading.Wrap-up ◆This provides a quickreview of the vocabulary,grammar, writing and themeof the unit.◆Tasks could be set forindividual work or done inpairs. ✧For Task 1, Task 2 and Task 3 on thelanguage work, you might want to setthem up as a team game or class quiz.✧Task 4 could be set as a reflectivewriting task.课后学习设计作业◆Finish all the tasks in Unit 2.◆Read the two texts in this unit again and try tosummarise their contents.◆Organize a college event and write a notice for it.课后总结和反思。
