本单元或章节的教学目的与要求
Chapter 13Multiple Deposit Creationand the Money Supply Process
This chapter introduces the basic concepts that are important in understanding how the money supply is determined. One point that needs to be emphasized at the outset is that the money supply is not determined solely at the whim of the central bank; rather, there are three other players in the money supply process who also play an important role: banks, depositors, and borrowers from banks. Chapter 13 extensively discusses the simple model of multiple deposit creation, even though it is unrealistic and does not feature all of the players, because the basic principles involved are used in the more complicated and realistic models that follow in the next chapter. If students already have had strong preparation in their principles course, much of this chapter will be review and thus can be taught fairly quickly.
