After it was introduced into China, a lot of scholars at home used it to study novels and other literary works.Wuthering Heights written by Emily Bronte, is a novel filled with many emotions and activity. Her characters represent an on going conflict between love and hate. Published in 1847, Wuthering Heights didn’t gain immediate success, many of whom condemned it as sordid, vulgar, and unnatural. It was not until 1850, when Wuthering Heights received a second printing with an introduction by Emily’s sister Charlotte, that it attracted a wide readership. Today it is widely regarded as one of the great novels of English literature.As pragmatics has been developing in recent years, and pragmatic analysis of many version of literary works or films has gained increasing focus. It provides us a new study method to analysis Wuthering Heights.Therefore, analyzing Wuthering Heights from the perspective of pragmatics is meaningful.So far, scholars abroad and at home study this novel mainly from the perspective of feminism and narratology, stylistics and realism theories. However, few people abroad or at home analyze the novel from the perspective of pragmatics. This paper aims to use pragmatics to study the dialogues of heroes to dig out the implicature of their implied meaning.二、研究方案(主要研究目标、内容、方法、及步骤)Ⅰ. Research aimsIn the hope of proving the thematic clues of Wuthering Heights–revenge, and providing a new way for reader to appreciate novel, this paper attempts to study Wuthering Heights by using pragmatics. The pragmatic theories in this paper include Cooperative Principle and Conversational Implicature maxim of Grice which provide a theory frame and research tool for the analysis of the dialogues in Wuthering Heights. The Cooperative Principle and its maxims explain the implied meaning, and explain how to generate and understand the conversational implicature. After many times of analysis, it can reveal the thematic clues of this novel on one hand, on the other hand, it can prove its constant attractiveness, and clarify the validity of using pragmatic theories in analyzing literature works. By analyzing the living condition of female characters in the novel, the study was to reveal how women in the Victorian Age began to challenge and fight against the traditional ideology.2. 高继海,《呼啸山庄》的主题与叙事;Based on the narrative strategy, the article summarized the past critical evaluations of Wuthering Heights, analyzed the reasons why it was neglected in the 19th century and highly praised in the 20th century, and pointed out that the circumstance was related to the irrationalism in the novel. Then the novel’s theme of love and revenge was discussed, love being based on congruence instead of complementarities, and revenge being extremely cruel and horrible.3.孟祥莲,《呼啸山庄》叙事策略对文本意蕴生成的独特作用;This thesis explored the effect of narrative time for text connotation in Wuthering Heights according to the summary for the strategy of narrative time.
