Kenya’s Geography
Kenya's geography is marvelously varied. While much of northeastern Kenya is a flat, bushcovered plain, the remainder of the country encompasses pristine beaches, scenic highlands and lake regions, the Great Rift Valley, and the magnificent Mount Kenya.
With the arrival of the Portuguese at the end of the 15th century, the East African coastal region was for a time dominated by the Europeans. However, in 1729 the Portuguese were expelled, to be replaced by two Arab dynasties. Arab rule lasted until the end of the 18th century, when Kenya passed into the British sphere of influence. The country became independent in 1963. Although it has experienced its share of internal and external strife, Kenya has in recent years been moving toward a more stable, multi-party political system. Kenya's population is overwhelmingly (97%) comprised of people of African descent, though that group is composed of over 70 different tribal groups.

Introduction to Kenya Culture
culture There are between 40 and 70 tribes in Kenya, Although their role in Kenya culture is slowly diminishing, it’s still one of the most important facts of social life. As a result, national consciousness is quite weak Kenya Lifestyle Within Africa, Kenyans enjoy a reputation as hard workers and at 7 o’clock the streets are crowded. When meeting someone, a Kenyan will greet him extensively. Shaking hands is normal between men when meeting and departing. Women also shake hands with each other, but with men only in more sophisticated circles. Kenyans naturally touch each other easily, like in Latin culture. Be aware of the fact that the left hand is seen as unhygienic. So use your right hand to pass things to someone, to touch somebody, etcetera.. Kenyans dress conservatively. Kenyan men wear shirts and long trousers, often with a blazer or sweater. Women wear long trousers or skirts below the knee. Kenya Religion Most Kenyans are nominally Christians, although many mix it with traditional religious beliefs. You’ll encounter for example a widespread belief in witchcraft. Religion is important in Kenya culture. Gospel music is popular and especially in cities you’ll often see street preachers, who offer religion as a solution of the many social ills in Kenya. 8
Kenya has known the presence of humankind since the very earliest development of our species. Moreover, the region has long been a migratory path, passed through by wave upon wave of peoples from all over Africa and, later, from the Middle East as well. By the 10th century or so, the region had developed its own lingua franca, Swahili, which is a Bantu language heavily overlaid with Arabic. Among other familiar words, safari is Swahili, meaning simply travel.

• This safari takes you through the Masai country towards the Amboseli Game Reserve, with a 2 nights stay at the lodge in the Game Reserve. • Day 1- Depart for a scenic drive to Amboseli National Park, set the the foot of the magnificent Mount Kilimanjaro. Amboseli National Park has a prolific population of elephants. Arrive at the lodge in time for lunch. Lunch and afternoon gamedrive follows. Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Serena Lodge. You can camping in there.
