一、课程性质与任务
本课程介绍语言学的基本知识，提高学生的分析语言的理论水平，为学生撰写毕业论文以及进一步的深造打下了良好的基础。
通过授课和训练，介绍有关语言学的基本概念、基本知识和基础理论，使学生掌握语言学的基本知识，了解英语语言学各领域的基本理论体系，并初步了解研究英语语言学的方法和途径。
二、教学目的与要求
了解语言的本质特征，语言的功能、语言学中的重要区别及普通语言学的主要分支。
系统了解语言学各分支的知识，即语音学、音位学、词汇学、句法学、语义学、语用学等的基本内容及研究方法。
了解语言学与其他相关学科交叉所形成的学科，如心理语言学、社会语言学、应用语言学等的基本知识与研究方法。
重点掌握英语语言学基本概念，使学生学习必要的语言学方面的基本理论和基本知识，掌握研究、运用语言的基本方法，为今后的专业学习和工作打下坚实的基础。

本课程为英语专业核心课程，必须建立在良好的基础课程学习的基础上，基础阶段的语言运用能力和语言认识能力是学习此课程的基础。
本课程为语言专业学生知识体系得核心课
程，是学习文学，翻译，教学论等的理论基础。
同时，和其他课程一起，共同提高英语综合能力。
