History
◆ Belgium's name is derived from the Belgae - its early inhabitants who were probably Celts. They were fearsome enemies of the Romans but were conquered by Julius Caesar and were then ruled by Rome. ◆ Later, they were subject to the rule of many others the Spanish, Austrians and the French. ◆ In 1815, Belgium was merged into the Netherlands at the Vienna meeting. ◆ In 1830, Belgium became an independent, constitutional monarchy. ◆ During the World Wars I and II, Belgium was occupied in by the Germans. ◆ After the second World War, Belgium joined NATO. ◆ In 1958, and join the European Community. It established the economic alliance with the Netherlands, Luxembourg. ◆ In 1993, the national system was reformed -- The government pursues federal parliamentary democracy.

◆Grand' Place: The worldfamous Grand Place in Brussels, is located in the center of Brussels, was founded in the 12th century, known as one of Europe's most beautiful squares. Central Plaza, medieval buildings, mostly built in the Gothic, Renaissance, Louis XIVstyle and other architectural forms, and its architectural styles, like people have a sense of exposure to the middle ages.

◆ Manneken-Pis (French for "the young boy Julian") this fountain is now commonly known as Manneken-Pis and is a very famous landmark in Brussels. It is not known exactly why the statue was created, but there are many different legends. On the carnival, the little boy will "spread" out of beer, thousands of people to rush to drink it; this scene is very interesting sight.

---Chocolate ◆ Belgium produces 172,000 tons of chocolate per year with more than 2,000 chocolate shops throughout the country. Many chocolatiers still make their chocolate by hand. Every town and even small villages have chocolate stores with luxurious pralines. ◆ There are some famous chocolate shops in Belgium. The top grade is Pierre Marcolini which is the LV among all of the chocolate brands. As for the medium grade shops Leonidas has the most shops in Belgium and Leonidas is very popular among visitors. The public brand is Guylian which is the founder of sea shell chocolate. Another famous brand is Cote D'Or which is most popular and cheapest.
