Such changes in the population age structure are unprecedented in Chinese history, rapidly accelerating the aging of our world.

• In 2010, there were 23.0 million older women and 17.5 million older men, or a sex ratio of 132 women for every 100 men. The female to male sex ratio increases with age, r to a high of 206 for persons 85 and over.

• China is moving rapidly toward an aging society.
• Today, China’s average is equal to that of the world in terms of the proportion of people aged 60+ about 10percent.

• However, by 2050, this proportion is expected to rise to 30 percent. The absolute numbers are estimated to increase from 128 million in 2000 to 431 million in 2050.
