• German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz plans to launch three to five compact premium cars in India by 2015. • It also plans to invest Rs 350 crore till 2014 in its facility at Chakan, India. • This is for a new paint shop and two assembly lines for B- and Aclass cars, and ML and GL SUVs.

Production in California
• The investment group that has talked for years about building a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Temecula will do the plans that were thought up of in 2008. Temecula Mayor Chuck Washington said that the production of the site could begin in late summer or early fall. The dealership is planned to open sometime in the summer or fall of 2013. •
• "India is an important growth market for us, where we see potential,” says Dieter Zetcshe.
• Zetsche told ET that the company will expand its dealer network and ramp up production in the country.

• Mercedes Benz plans to invest a further R2 billion in South Africa to build the next C-Class at its East London plant. This investment will reportedly increase the East London plant's capacity from 50 000 to 65 000 units per annum. •


Washington said the project was shelved because of the economy and that it's encouraging to see it being revived. "It's indicative they have confidence that things are getting better,” says Washington.
