bank on/upon 依赖
【讲解】
Bank作动词时指“把钱存入银行，开银行或在赌博中做庄家”，而bank on引申为“把希望建在……上，依赖，指望”等意思。

【对话】
A：Are you sure of your success in this election?
A: 你对这次选举的成功有把握吗？
B: No. I can't bank on their support.
B：没有。

我不能指望他们的支援。

A: Why?
A: 为什么？
B: Because they're used to sitting on the fence.
B：因为他们是墙头草。

back up 支持
【讲解】
此语含义较多，常表示“证明某人所说为实”、“支持物，备用设施”，多用于backup plan/system/generator etc.中。

【对话】
A: I decide not to buy the mobile phone.
A: 我决定先不买手机了。

B: But you told me yesterday you would.
B: 可昨天你还说你会买。

A: I have changed my mind.
A: 我改主意了。

B: What's wrong?
B：怎么了？
A: My family doesn't back me up at this point. They think it is useless to me now as a student.
A: 我们家人不支持我。

他们说我现在还是学生，手机对我没用。
