Application Test Methods:
Pour Point Measurement
When a crude oil is cooled down,formation of wax crystals starts at the
so the so-called…wax appearance temperature“(WAT).As the“test medium“crude oil is black,this process is not visible like the measurement of the…cloud point“e.g.in a gas oil fraction.The wax appearance temperature must be measured indirectly,e.g.by DSC.
If the oil is cooled further down below its WAT,it will solidify at a certain temperature. This temperature is the so-called“no flow point”adding+3°C leads to the pour point It represents one of the important characteristics of a waxy crude.
Pour Point depressants are tested according to the international standard
test procedure ASTM D97.
